Vanuatu is an island nation
located in the South Pacific Ocean. Vanuatu was
first inhabited by Melanesian people. In the late 18th century Europeans began
to settle in the area. Republic
of Vanuatu was created in
1980. Vanuatu
has been divided into six provinces since 1994. Vanuatu is an island archipelago
consisting of approximately 82 relatively small, geologically newer islands of
volcanic origin. The economy is based primarily on subsistence or small-scale
agriculture, which provides a living for 65% of the population. On the whole, Vanuatu is a
healthy, beautiful place to live.
