Buenos Aires - Heaven of Argentina
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 11-Jun-2009

Buenos Aires is an unforgettable city. This is the capital and largest city of Argentina. Buenos Aires was built by Europeans; this vibrant city overflows with energy and brims with attractive residents called portenos. They value their European heritage highly, Italian and German names outnumber Spanish, and the lifestyle and architecture are markedly more European than any other in South America.

Buenos_Aires

Buenos Aires is composed of many small places, intimate details, and tiny events and interactions, each with a slightly different shade, shape, and character. The national dance, the tango, is perhaps the best expression of that spirit--practiced in dance halls, parks, open plazas, and ballrooms. Buenos Aires' climate is generally pleasant, with an annual rainfall of 900mm spread evenly throughout the year. In terms of weather, spring (September to November) and fall (March to May) are the best seasons to visit Buenos Aires. Spanish is the official language, but English is understood in the tourist areas.

Yerba mate is an herbal tea claimed to have the ability to stimulate the mind and many medicinal and healthful properties. The low caffeine levmateels make this herbal tea a fantastic substitute for coffee. "Ilex Paraguayans" is a medium sized tree cultivated in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil. Also during the time the Ottoman Empire ruled Syria, Lebanon and Egypt, many Arabs emigrated to Argentina, and there they learned to drink yerba mate.

Syria is also the biggest importer of yerba mate in the world, importing 15,000 tons a year. It is mostly the Druze community in Syria and Lebanon who maintain the culture and practice of mate. This evergreen member of the Holly family was introduced in South America by the Guarani Indians of these regions, who called it " the drink of the Gods" It is the leaves that are desirable. The need to be "deactivated" to release the natural enzymes. This process can be done by holding cut branches over open fire. The foliage are dried, toasted and crushed to produce a fine, flaky leaf tea.

A huge ice dam on Argentina's Perito Moreno glacier, 2800km southeast of Buenos Aires, has begun breaking apart for the first time in winter, as mentioned on news.com.au.

"Scientists and environmentalists said the unseasonal collapse of the 60m-high wall of ice during the southern hemisphere's winter months is most likely the result of global warming".
