Calling All Twins - Twinsburg Twin Day Festival
Are you a twin, or are your children, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, twins? If so, I’ve got some good news for you.
August, is THE month! THE month for what? Well, it’s the month of the annual Twinsburg Twins Days Festival
, and this year it will be on the 3rd, 4th and 5th August.
But is there really a place called Twinsburg? You bet there is and it’s right there on the map in the state of Ohio. And it’s named Twinsburg because it was founded by twin brothers, Moses and Aaron Wilcox about two hundred years ago.
And to celebrate its association with twins the town has for many years staged its own Twin Days Festival, always in August. Twins (triplets, quadruplets, etc. too) flock to the festival from all over the globe to meet and mix with other twins and take part in the many events which are held. The festival started in 1976 with a total of 36 sets of twins, and it has grown year by year since then until now there are several thousand. And many of the participants make a point of returning every year, to meet old friends and to make new ones.
Actually, there are two types of twins, identical and fraternal. Identical twins result when a fertilized egg splits into two, and fraternal twins happen when eggs are fertilized by different sperm. Not surprisingly, this large congregation of twins is of interest to organizations which do twin research, and many of these set up booths at the festival in order to study and interview the participants.
So if you are a twin, or not a twin – all are welcome – make sure you keep some time available in August so that you can join this giant twin-bash. Have fun meeting fellow-twins, enjoy yourself and see double without touching a drop of alcohol!
