Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 01-Jul-2009

Motherhood is a wonderful feeling that make every women complete. In the midst of hustles and bustles of life often a women forget to experience this beautiful feeling. Even kids are so busy with their school and friends that they miss to express the love to their mother. Mother's day is the way to celebrate your motherhood as a mother and for children this is an opportunity to say "Thanks Mom for all your love". But, it does not have to be Mother's Day for you to do this, I say it should be mother's day everyday and this is how!

  • mom Start your day with a nice shower and intensive moisturizing session. We buy lots of scented lotion but never use them due to lack of time. Now this is the time use them and feel the difference. When you look good, you feel good. I know you have some lying around, so go and get ti and use it.
  • Enjoy your lunch just for yourself, go out and enjoy time alone.
  • How about a massage for an hour in a massage parlor. It's indulgent, it's relaxing, and it's therapeutic. And you're worth it!
  • Spend a good time in beauty parlor, manicure, pedicure, a good relaxing facial. Enjoy the feeling of princess and spoil yourself. Get a haircut and change your look. Trust me you will enjoy this feeling for weeks...
  • Go for a shopping, well we never need a reason for this!
  • Make your evening special, may be go for a movie with your close friend and enjoy popcorn all for yourself. You always come last so now you can be selfish and eat it all yourself,.
relax

Make any day special for your mom and here is how:

  • Write a hand written note expressing all your thoughts, love and feeling for your mom and leave it where she will see it.
  • Do something your mom always wanted to do. May be taking her for a hair cut or for a massage. May be you can get something related to her hobby, painting set or a complete collection of photographs from your childhood.
  • Cook dinner for her and have it ready for her and the rest of the family. Give her a break, she will love that.
pamper

Your small effort of one day will increase the bonding of love between you and your mother. Love of mothers is truly unconditional but this doesn't mean that she is ignored. Pamper your mother and give her chance to feel special and wanted, not just on Mother's Day but any day of the year!

Cough and Kids
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 30-Jun-2009

Are you also worried about the cold and cough your child is suffering from? Coughing is a very common symptom in children and usually accompanies an infection with the common cold virus. Cough can be of many types, whooping cough, dry cough, chesty cough, cough with vomiting or barky cough. However you need to understand the cause of your child's cough in order provide appropriate help and treatment.

coughHow to understand the type of cough:

  1. When your child is coughing long or cannot draw breath, possibly its whooping cough, which is caused by bacteria not virus.
  2. If your child is feeling like a tickle in the back of the throat, that symbolizes dry cough that is not in itself dangerous, but a natural and normal reaction to secretions in the respiratory tract.
  3. If there is wheezing while inhaling possibly its barky cough which is commonly brought on by a viral upper respiratory infection, or in some cases allergies.
  4. Chesty cough is due to virus can get very loud and worrisome, but they don't always signal a major infection. If your child is still eating, has energy and can sleep at night, they'll likely kick the cough in 7 to 10 days.
  5. If your child or baby has a cough, and throws up after coughing, it doesn't necessarily mean they have a more serious infection. If your child coughs violently for over 2 weeks with vomiting, can't stop coughing and can't breathe, they may have whooping cough.

Pump it1 Dump it0      Posted on: 13-Apr-2009

Being a parent is a big responsibility and very difficult at times, but being a single mom can be even more challenging. During tough time you never find anyone around to help you. That's when single moms must take the initiative and search for the answers. It's often helpful to try tips and suggestions offered by other single moms. Mostly there is an argument in our society that single moms cannot raise her son emotionally and physically healthy and that their sons tend to have an effeminate side to their personalities, that is, traits that are more often associated with traditional feminine gender roles rather than masculine roles. But with time myths are breaking. Some of the most famous celebrities raised by single moms are Bill Clinton, Bill Cosby, Tom Cruise and Les Brown.

Get your kids to exercise
Pump it1 Dump it0      Posted on: 06-Apr-2009

In the era of Internet, television and video games, it's really difficult to convince kids do exercise. Nowadays children have so many fun and interesting things to do indoors, that they are hardly ready to go out and workout. Exercise is extremely important as a child grows into an adult. The less exercise your child experiences, the less likely they will exercise when they get older. By following some tips you can motivate your children and get them moving!

kids and exercise
  • You need to set the rules in advance. Make a deal with them: for every half hour they surf the web or watch TV, they have to do half an hour of something physical. Physical doesn't have to be exercise per se. Your child can add physical activity throughout the day in a number of ways.

Growth Hormone Deficiency Explained
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 06-Feb-2009

Kids and teens grow and go through puberty at different times. For girls, puberty usually begins between ages 8 and 13. For guys it often begins a bit later - between 10 and 15. You must have observed some teens develop a lot earlier, whereas others develop much later than other people of the same age. There's a medical reason why some people grow more slowly than usual.

Reasons of slow growth:

  • Genetic Reason: If you're short, you may just have familial (genetic) short stature. Like short parents tend to have short children.

Growth Hormone Deficiency
  • Lack of Nutrition: Not getting adequate amounts of protein, calories, and other nutrients in your diet can also cause growth to slow, as well as a number of other chronic medical conditions such as kidney, heart, lung, and intestinal diseases.

Help your baby to talk, it's music to your ears
Pump it1 Dump it0      Posted on: 30-Jan-2009

Listening the first word from your baby is a great feeling. Isn't it and when the word is "mama"? Your joy knows no bound, but l must say the first word my son said was "daddy"! Generally babies utter their first words at 11 to 14 months, when the tongue and lips gain dexterity and the brain starts to match up objects with names. Every child learns to speak with time but you as a parent can help them to talk from birth onwards. Critical milestones for a baby learning to talk happen in the first three years of life.

baby talking
  • Baby talk at 3 months: By the end of three months, babies begin "cooing" -- a happy, gentle, repetitive, sing-song vocalization. At three months, your baby listens to your voice, watches your face as you talk, and turns toward other voices and sounds.
  • Baby talk at 6 months: At six months, your baby begins babbling with different sounds, "ba-ba" or "da-da." By the end of the sixth or seventh month, babies respond to their own names, recognize their native language.

Helping to develop social skills in toddlers
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 27-Jan-2009

Toddler develop great social skills through the interaction they have with people around them. Different activities help to develop mental, physical, social and emotional skills to stimulate your children's imagination and creativity. As a parent you should involve your child in such activities through which your toddler can understand and learn the world around him.

sharing

Some of the activities that can enhance your toddler's social skills are mentioned here:

  • Importance of Money: Give your child different coins and ask them to count them. Teach your child how to use the money and about money which will enable them to understand the value of it.
  • Indulge them in cooking: Accompany your child in mixing, baking, measuring the ingredients. These are the tasks your kid will enjoy doing and it goes not matter if they make a mess
  • Cleaning work through game: This will give them the sense of responsibility and will be hygienic from the very beginning of their life and they will do it as part of the "norm".
  • Encouraging Play with Others: Always involve and encourage your child to play in a group. This will inculcate the team skills in your child. They will watch and often copy what they see others do, even though they're not yet able to play with them. I am sure untill now your toddler thinks everything is MINE, but they need to learn the skill of sharing. As they grow and become more experienced at play, they'll learn to play with other children. This is called "cooperative" play, and usually happens after the age of 3. In cooperative play, children learn to work and solve problems together, and develop their social skills.

Teenage pregnancy, yes it can happen!
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 26-Jan-2009

Teen Pregnancy refers to pregnancy in women/girls who are aged 19 and under. In the past, it was generally assumed that most teen pregnancies resulted from inadequate sex education, lack of access to contraception and sexual health services. But now it is revealed that teen pregnancy is not a simple social problem that can be fixed with appropriate educational and health messages, and that a more comprehensive approach is required. Although it is an extremely difficult situation for a teen to deal with a teenage pregnancy, current statistics reveal that approximately 10% of girls 19 and under do get pregnant.

Problems of teen pregnancy.

  • Possible health risks to the pregnant teen and her growing baby
  • The ability of the teen parent to care for and support her child
  • The effect that pregnancy/parenting at a young age can have on the teen's life plan
  • The social costs of supporting young mothers and their children

To avoid teen pregnancy, every girl should take some precautions, it may sound simple but here it is explained in simple language for you to understand

  1. Make a proactive decision about whether or not you are going to engage in sexual intercourse. "It should never be something that is done to you," states Blum, who specializes in adolescent medicine.
  2. If sexual intercourse is something you choose to do, then protect yourself against the major health risks such as HIV/AIDS, STDs and pregnancy.
  3. Never assume that by "knowing" your partner that he or she is not infected. "You're likely to be wrong," Blum says, from drdonicca.com
  4. Contraception used sometimes - works sometimes. "If you are going to engage in sexual intercourse, you need to use contraception always," Blum recommends.

Nappy Rash - uncomfortable for your little one
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 14-Jan-2009

Nappy rash is very common - most babies will get it at some point. It is not usually a 'disease', but just an irritation of the skin. It is usually caused when your baby's skin comes into contact with urine and faeces that collects in their nappy. Leaving a wet nappy on a baby for long periods of time can make the rash worse.

happy baby

Symptoms of nappy rash:

  • Inflamed skin - the skin around the genital area and anus looks red and moist.
  • Blistering - the skin may blister, then peel, leaving raw patches (ulcers).
  • Spreading - the rash can spread onto the tummy and buttocks.
  • Ulcers - small ulcers can sometimes form on healthy skin near the area of the rash.

Prepare your child for the first day at school
Pump it1 Dump it1      Posted on: 03-Jan-2009

The first day of your child at school is one of the greatest turns in their life. For the first time they step into the world when you are not with him/her to take care of everything, it's the beginning of their independent life. Your child gets surrounded by lots of queries, confusions and may be fearful of the change from the small, loving and comfortable preschool situation. At this point as a parent you need to prepare your child to face the strange world alone. Let's learn some tips that you can follow to make the first day of school the best day of your child.

prepare your child

  • Kids need a good night's sleep before the first day of school. About two weeks before school starts, start gradually moving bedtime and wake-up call earlier, to get the kids used to a new earlier schedule.
  • At least a day before school starts, help your child pack his backpack with his supplies, putting his name on everything and sharpening his pencils.
  • If your child is starting school at a new, unfamiliar building, or is beginning a new phase, the best way to ease his anxiety is to equip him with as much information as you can. Ask your school administrators if you and your child can tour the building sometime before the school starts.
  • In the weeks before school begins, discuss kindergarten with your child. Express enthusiasm and excitement at all she is going to learn. Try to evoke responses from your child to see how she may be feeling.

Sexual Abuse: It is never right
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 28-Dec-2008

Sexual abuse is any form of non-consensual physical contact. It includes rape, molestation, or any sexual conduct with a person who lacks the mental capacity to exercise consent. Until the 1970s the occurrence of sexual abuse had been gravely underestimated.

sexual Abuse Growing awareness of the problem led legislatures to enact reporting requirements, which mandate that any professional person (doctor, nurse, teacher, social worker) who knows or has reason to believe that a child is being abused report this information to the local welfare agency or law enforcement department. Statistics vary widely about the level of sexual abuse, but most researchers agree that it occurs at a higher rate than previously believed. Experts on the subject estimate that more than 130,000 children a year are sexually abused in the United States alone.

Ricky Martin's twins were born via surrogate in early August, Ricky Martin's spoke frankly with PEOPLE at home in Puerto Rico. He says, "I'm so happy! Everything they do, from smiling to crying, feels like a blessing. Being a father feels amazing. This has been the most spiritual moment in my life". Will all the money he has he has no help with the twins, he does it all himself! "I don't have a nanny. I'm doing this on my own because I don't want to miss a moment. I have a personal assistant who helps me, someone who takes care of me while I'm taking care of them, but I'm the one who changes the diapers, the one that feeds them, the one that bathes them, the one that puts them to sleep. For any parent, the first couple of months tend to get a little bit intense.

The twins are called Valetino and Matteo and about these two cuties he says "Valentino loves to sleep. I call him 'Mr. Peace and Love' because he's so chill and serene. Matteo is more alert and active. He was up at 3 a.m. the other night and just hanging!"

I want to give them information and raise them with honesty and love, and give them self-esteem and a lot of acceptance." Well said Ricky and all the best to your new family.

Did you know that during pregnancy, the basic framework of a babies brain is formed. The different parts of the brain are in place, for example the brain stem, thalamus, and cerebellum. This initial development also provides basic brain functions that help the baby live. After birth the brain is still immature in that the connections between different parts of the brain are not yet formed. The literature also says that to some extent formation of the connections depend on exposure to our environment--through relationships and experiences. So just think about what you do and what environment your baby is in.

baby brain

Babies learn to talk through you, they learn by hearing language and having a "conversation." Between the ages of 6-12 months, babies begin to fine-tune their ability to perceive the speech sounds of their native language as opposed to non-native language. Finally did you know that, a baby's brain has the greatest density of brain synapses by age 3! I just think that is amazing. So here a few things you can do to a baby form newborn to 6 months of age and beyond.

How much sleep does my baby need?
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 18-Nov-2008

Once the bliss of having a new baby at home wears off, your life begins to get back to "normal". So how much should my baby be sleeping? Well, in a 24 hour period, newborn babies generally sleep for 16 to 18 hours. By three months of age, with development of the brain, sleep patterns will generally become more predictable with most of the sleep occurring at night, and then two to three naps during the day, or so the literature says. Some babies will not sleep much at all during the day, but the way l see it is if your baby has a great night sleep then why change it! Here is a guide for you to have as a guideline.

  • Newborns

Number of sleeps per day: 4

Average time up during the day between sleeps: 1 hour

* Newborns will be asleep 16 to 18 hours per day.

* Sleep for 1 to 3 hours at a time.

* Anything less than 1 hour is called a catnap or a power nap.

* It is expected for baby to wake overnight for a feed.

Angelina Jolie planning to retire from movies
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 13-Nov-2008

Angelina is looking forward to be a full time mother ana wants to fade away from movies. True, taking care of six children is a big job. "I don't plan to keep acting very long," she tells the BBC. "I'm ready to do a few things now and fade away and get ready to be a grandma one day."  She is starring in The Changeling, says she plans to "work for a few months" in February, then take a year off. "I won't work again probably for another year," she says. "So maybe it'll be once a year, then maybe it'll be once every three years." She adds: "I have a lot of children. I have a big responsibility to make sure that they're growing right and that they have got us there for them."

angelina-jolie

Angelina has no worries for financial liabilities as another wage earner Brad Pitt is there in the family. And no doubt he is a perfect husband and a caring father. "I'm not so worried that I want to keep this pace up and try to be something and be a celebrity and be a successful actress forever," she tells the BBC. "It's great, but everything comes in seasons. I hopefully I won't be needing to do that later in my life."  I think Angelina has taken a wise decision. When you plan a family its very much necessary to give proper care to the children. The most important thing what child wants is time and love of their parents. Angelina been a great actress all through and now it's been proved that she is a great mother too.
