    diy napkin holders

If this year you’re deciding to host Thanksgiving, first of all you deserve an award. Being a host during Thanksgiving can be stressful. You want to impress your friends and family with your hostess prowess. An important part of Thanksgiving that is often forgotten in the stress of the day is the table scape. The food is obviously the most important part but second to none is the presentation. I have a few, quick easy ways for you to dress up your table that won’t leave you crying in the pantry.

    Star Napkin Holders

I know you’re busting out the good china and fancy cloth napkins for today. Let’s not stop there. I have a beautiful way for you to present your napkins.

    Here’s what you’ll need:
    • Napkins made of cotton or linen
    • White spray paint (or any color you want)
    • Dried sweetgum fruits
    • Metallic cord
    • Glue gun

    Instructions:

    1. Spray-paint sweetgum fruits; let dry.
    2. Cut cord into 12-inch lengths. Dab hot glue onto 2 sweetgum fruits, and put end of a cord into each.
    3. Tie cords around folded napkins.

    Corkboard Leave Trivets

You might be asking yourself, what the heck is a trivet? A trivet is what you place under the hot dishes that will be on your table.

    Here’s what you’ll need:

    • Corkboard (you can find these at most office supply stores)
    • Pen or Pencil
    • Leaf outline (this is optional, free hand itif you feel like it)
    • Craft knife

    Instructions

Simply draw an outline of a leaf on the corkboard. Make sure it’s big enough to place a pot on. Once you’re done drawing use your craft knife (much like an X-Acto knife) to cut out the design. Remember to make enough for all the pots.

    Vegetable Vases

This is probably my favorite of all the crafts. It’s very beautiful and unique.

    Here’s what you’ll need:

    • Pick out some produce. I like the way squash, turnips, and pomegranates look.
    • A corer
    • One sharp knife
    • Candles and seasonal flowers

    Instructions

Wash and dry your vegetables. After this you may need to cut the bottom of your vegetables to make sure they can stand on their own. Now cut off the top and core just the center. Place a beautiful flower or candle in the center. These may not last longer than a day but the memory of your beautiful, festive table scape will.

I hope these help to make your Thanksgiving beautiful. Check out some of our recipes to help make it delicious as well.

    Pot Roast

     Ingredients

    • 4 pound chuck roast
    • 1 packet onion soup mix
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 1 large carrot, sliced
    • 4 potatoes, peeled and quartered
    • 2 garlic cloves, pealed and mashed
    • 1/2 stick butter
    • 1 cup milk
    • water
    • salt
    • pepper

    Directions - Part One

    • Season the roast with salt and pepper (based on your personal tastes) and brown it on all sides in a large skillet over high heat
    • Add the onion soup mix to the slow cooker along with 1 cup of water. Mix.
    • Add the carrots, onion, potatoes, and cloves to the slow cooker
    • Add the roast on top of the veggies
    • Add enough water to cover everything
    • Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-5 hours

      Directions - Part Two

    • Once the roast is done and the veggies are tender, take out the roast and place it on a service plate.
    • Remove the veggies and garlic from the soup and mash them together, (just like you would mashed potatoes).
    • Add butter and additional salt and pepper (if desired) to the veggie mash. Blend thoroughly.
    • Add the milk, a little at a time, to the mashed veggies mixture until desired mashed potato-like consistency is achieved.
    • Serve

     Variations

    • Add 1 bay leaf and/or rosemary spring to the slow cooker before cooking and remove after cooking
    • Add chopped celery to the soup and mash it into the veggie mash. (This adds some texture that not everyone appreciates)
    • Fry bacon, crumble it and add that to the veggie mash before serving
    • Add cheese, cream cheese or sour cream to the veggie mash before serving
    • Reserve some of the veggies whole to serve along with the pot roast, and mash the remainder together
