As you may know, the title is taken from the catchy 90s pop tune, Haddaway’s “What is Love.” So I pose the question, “What is love exactly?” It seems we are forever super obsessed with finding our one true soul mate.
Chris Rock, in his live concert, “Never Scared,” gives his comedic take on finding your true soul mate. Chris Rock explains, you are never happy; you are either “married and bored” or “single and lonely.” Basically saying, you are never happy. Yes this seems like a very harsh take on something that’s supposed to be a happy occasion.
Is marriage a jail sentence or a happy union? Depends on your situation, if you were hurt many times or divorced, you may not have a great view on love and marriage. Maybe your dating history caused you to be jaded. Let’s face it, no one seems to have a Hollywood love story. But back to the main subject, “What is love?” Can you be in love without being in like?
I ask this question because, in my point of view, being in like keeps people together. You may fall in and out of love with someone, but like will keep you around.
What is love? Love is that thing that keeps two people together for 50 plus years even if it seems like a jail sentence for your significant other. Remember though, this prison sentence not only comes with three square meals and cable TV, but also a partnership that can last forever.
Is it worth it?
