A heartbreaking marriage is behind a matchmaking agency that has brought together more than one thousand couples and has one strict rule – only singles need apply.
Paula, who founded and runs the business, emphasizes that she has this rule because it is not her objective to involve her clients with people who are already married.
She herself learned from bitter experience what it was like to find out that the man she considered her husband already had a wife. The subsequent break-up made her start thinking of ways to give women, and men too, both better opportunities and better protection when starting a new relationship.
This led to the start of Paula’s matchmaking service which over the past two decades has registered more than fifteen thousand members, all of whom must be at least twenty years of age and single, divorced or widowed. Paula takes at least one week to check out the background of each new member.
Paula interviews all members to find out about their personalities, and especially their sincerity. This latter quality is of great significance, says Paula, as she finds through questioning that many would-be members are inclined to mask their real intentions.
About six out of ten of the applicants interviewed by Paula, a lively, friendly and good-humored woman, meet her criteria and are given the telephone numbers of suitable matches. If things don’t work out members are free to obtain further contacts from Paula until the right person comes along.
How does Paula make her money? Well, that comes from the membership-fee, about $100, which is payable up-front.
Paula’s statistics show that most of the women who apply are between 25 and 45, good-looking, well-educated and holding jobs in business or government. And those who do marry, stay married.
The oldest couple successfully brought together was a 75 year old man and a 63 year old woman, and this proves, says Paula, that it’s never too late!
