Online dating is nothing new, but it seems to be more widely accepted in recent years. Such sites have already gained notoriety: e-harmony, Zoosk, match.com and others, have become the equivalent of cyber cupids. So I wonder, “Are dating sites changing the dating landscape?”
You may have this idea that dating sites are the last frontier for you. Only desperate, lonely people use online dating services. But then you find out that your best friend, your best friend’s friend and her friends all have found their “match” through dating sites.
Why haven’t you joined the bandwagon? It seemed taboo to you at first however your curiosity took over. You’ll soon find yourself browsing through one of the dating sites only to find a person who has peaked your interest.
What do you do now? Everything seems so wrong, you’re lonely on a Friday night, your girls are out on dates and you are left at home tending to a carton of Edy’s ice cream and watching reruns of Gossip Girls.
So now you make a limited profile. You post a little information about yourself and off you go on the quest of finding your perfect mate.
Of course every story isn’t happy. There are people getting scammed and finding complete losers. Don’t let stories like these deter you. Think about how many losers you’ve met in real life. Online dating couldn’t be that much worse, could it?
Embrace the 21st century by trying something different. If online dating doesn’t work for you, then delete your profile and move on. Doesn’t hurt to try though.
