      Homemade Italian Seasoning

Why buy expensive Italian Seasoning when you can use the spices you already have?

I personally grow my own basil, oregano, and rosemary, so I dry them and combine them with marjoram, sage, and thyme for this recipe. You can also add a bit of garlic and/or onion powder to this, but whenever possible, it’s nice to use fresh onion and garlic in recipes, so I leave them out of this mix.

    Ingredients
    • 2 Tablespoons dried basil
    • 2 Tablespoons marjoram
    • 2 Tablespoons oregano
    • 2 Tablespoons rosemary
    • 2 Tablespoons thyme
    • 1 Tablespoon sage

    Optional
    • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder

    Directions
    • Mix all ingredients in a bowl until well combined.
    • Store in an air tight container – Ziploc bag, jar, or airtight plastic containers work well.

    Pro Tips
If you live in a particularly humid and wet climate, it can be difficult to keep spices dry and fresh, even in “airtight” containers. If you have this problem, try keeping the jar / bag / container inside your container of dry rice. The rice helps prevent moisture from ruining your spices.

I find this particularly helpful with salt and garlic powder, which tend to clump up on me a week or so after buying them.

This particular Italian Seasoning Mix works great for Chicken Meatballs, pizza, spaghetti sauce, alfredo sauce and spinach lasagna.
