Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 05-Aug-2009

Most of the toddlers are in the habit of sucking their fingers and thumb. As a parent you must be worried about this practice, but don't worry it's very common among children and by following some simple tips you can help your children to get rid of this habit. They suck on their fingers, clothing, and toys. From this action they learn what is pleasing and what is uncomfortable. You will find your children sucking their thumbs especially when they are tired.

Encourage your toddler to stop thumb sucking

Steps to help your child to avoid thumb sucking:

  • Don't criticize your child or never talk about your disappointment on his habit in front of him, if you do so it can irritate him and as a result he will increase thumb sucking.
  • Majorly child sucks thumb or fingers when they are bored or he has nothing to do. So try to engage him with some new toys or anything interesting that your child enjoys so that he can forget about the habit and concentrate on the activity.
  • Always keep your child happy. A happy child will never take stress which can be the reason of thumb sucking. During the phase when you are trying to free your child from this habit don't do anything which they dislike or don't want to practice.
  • Children are very fluctuating in nature. They will never listen to you during the state of stress or irritation so always select the time when they are in happy mood so that they can cooperate with you to their fullest.

Pump it1 Dump it0      Posted on: 13-Apr-2009

Being a parent is a big responsibility and very difficult at times, but being a single mom can be even more challenging. During tough time you never find anyone around to help you. That's when single moms must take the initiative and search for the answers. It's often helpful to try tips and suggestions offered by other single moms. Mostly there is an argument in our society that single moms cannot raise her son emotionally and physically healthy and that their sons tend to have an effeminate side to their personalities, that is, traits that are more often associated with traditional feminine gender roles rather than masculine roles. But with time myths are breaking. Some of the most famous celebrities raised by single moms are Bill Clinton, Bill Cosby, Tom Cruise and Les Brown.

IVF: In vitro fertilization explained
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 15-Dec-2008

For the couples experiencing male fertility problems or those who have been unsuccessful with less advanced treatments, IVF is often the best alternative to achieve pregnancy. IVF is simply the uniting of egg and sperm in the lab - in vitro. Subsequently the embryos are transferred into the uterus through the cervix and pregnancy is allowed to begin. IVF involves collecting eggs and sperm from you and your partner and placing them together in a laboratory dish for fertilization.

Who needs IVF?

dream to be pregnant

  • If woman's fallopian tubes are blocked or damaged, this can make it difficult for the egg to be fertilized or for an embryo to travel to the uterus.
  • Male factor can include a low sperm count, problems with sperm function or motility which can inhibit sperm from fertilizing an egg on its own.
  • Abnormal uterus shape, fibroid tumors, or exposure to diethylstilbestrol (DES) as a fetus.
  • Ovarian issues.

You must consult your doctor to know the best treatment for your infertility.

Did you know that during pregnancy, the basic framework of a babies brain is formed. The different parts of the brain are in place, for example the brain stem, thalamus, and cerebellum. This initial development also provides basic brain functions that help the baby live. After birth the brain is still immature in that the connections between different parts of the brain are not yet formed. The literature also says that to some extent formation of the connections depend on exposure to our environment--through relationships and experiences. So just think about what you do and what environment your baby is in.

Babies learn to talk through you, they learn by hearing language and having a "conversation." Between the ages of 6-12 months, babies begin to fine-tune their ability to perceive the speech sounds of their native language as opposed to non-native language. Finally did you know that, a baby's brain has the greatest density of brain synapses by age 3! I just think that is amazing. So here a few things you can do to a baby form newborn to 6 months of age and beyond.

Make your Toddlers air travel a fun ride
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 17-Nov-2008

Flying with your toddler can be a wonderful experience or a miserable adventure, the choice is yours. A little bit of intelligent planning before your travel can gift your child a happy ride and everyone else as well.

Preparation before you leave:

  1. Choose a non peak travel schedule if possible, as your child will be stress free in less crowd and so will you.
  2. Try to take flight according to child's eating and sleeping schedule. It's a good idea to keep their schedule as normal as possible when flying.
  3. If your child is used to of some comfort item like special blanket or any toy. Try to carry them along with you.
  4. Pack your bag with lots of snacks and drinks for your baby. You never know flight can get delayed too.
  5. Carry lots of activities that you baby love to play with. May be a video game or a music player. Children get bored very soon while sitting so you must have some interesting things to entertain them.
  6. Before travelling do speak to your child. Try and explain them about the airport rules. Teach them how to behave during the security check and baggage screening. I know they are too small to understand all these technicalities but children learn very fast.

Potty Training is a big step in your child's life, as no kid will stay in nappies all their life! You as a parent have a very important role in training your child. Don't try for toilet training too early - it is much easier when children are aged two and upwards but l guess it is up to you and when you feel your child is ready.

  • Can stay dry for a few hours or wakes up dry from sleep
  • Knows that he/she has to go to the bathroom
  • Understands the association between dry pants and using the potty

Parents can do lots of things to help prevent and solve this problem. Before approaching to end the problem look at why it is happening. Due to their limited language and our limited "mind-reading" skills, we are unable to really know exactly what their thinking! Some developmental theorists suggest that biting may be a form of exploration, but as parents we can make some educated guesses.

How can you help your child to cope with Fear?
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 15-Jul-2008

Every children have fears at some point in their life and it is usually considered to be a normal part of development. However, as the famous saying goes: Access of everything is bad" in the same manner if the fear interferes with normal activities parents must take care and help the child to overcome fear. You need to understand that the fear is rational or irrational. For example, it is normal for a 2 year old to be afraid of sitting on the potty, but it would be irrational for an 8 year old to have the same fear.

Parent-child bonding: Massaging
Pump it0 Dump it1      Posted on: 17-Mar-2008

Touch, a sense we all take for granted yet we seem to forget how powerful it can be.

Touch stimulates growth hormones and hormones that relieve stress as well as those that support bonding and affection.

A few minutes a day massaging your baby can do wonders. It can help him become more contented and calmer. Massage releases "happy" hormones called endorphins, which help in reducing stress. It also stimulates their senses through skin contact, your familiar smell, eye contact and the sound of your voice. It can include strengthening their muscles and joints and?ease some basic ailments.
