IVF: In vitro fertilization explained
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 11-Nov-2009

For the couples experiencing male fertility problems or those who have been unsuccessful with less advanced treatments, IVF is often the best alternative to achieve pregnancy. IVF is simply the uniting of egg and sperm in the lab - in vitro. Subsequently the embryos are transferred into the uterus through the cervix and pregnancy is allowed to begin. IVF involves collecting eggs and sperm from you and your partner and placing them together in a laboratory dish for fertilization.

Who needs IVF?

dream to be pregnant

  • If woman's fallopian tubes are blocked or damaged, this can make it difficult for the egg to be fertilized or for an embryo to travel to the uterus.
  • Male factor can include a low sperm count, problems with sperm function or motility which can inhibit sperm from fertilizing an egg on its own.
  • Abnormal uterus shape, fibroid tumors, or exposure to diethylstilbestrol (DES) as a fetus.
  • Ovarian issues.

You must consult your doctor to know the best treatment for your infertility.

Pump it1 Dump it1      Posted on: 09-Sep-2009

Fulfilling the role of Mom while holding down a job is really tough but trust me it's not impossible. Little planning and family cooperation can balance your personal and professional life. Fortunately, the prevailing winds are beginning to change, and women are finding they can balance work and family.

Tips to balance your home and job: Mostly we thing kids are dependent on us but this not completely true. They are because we make them so. As a working mom you need to make your child independent. Teach them the basic routine things like cleaning up their rooms, getting ready for school and going alone to the bathroom etc. Trust me, your child will learn these small things very soon and this will make them independent in life which is really very good for their bright future.

  • Create a routine of playing, study, eating etc and pass the information to your child. So in case you are not around, your child does all his important tasks in time.  Speak to your child and explain the things, they will take it positively.
  • If you have hired nanny, arrange for a written contact with her regarding what is expected out of her and what is not. You can set clear guidelines for handling your child and make them exactly the way you want your child to be reared.
  • Make a visit to your child's school, try to be friendly with all his friends and see whether your child is in good company or not because he is spending more time with them than you. Speak to teachers if required to understand the performance of your child.

Single Mom - not a problem!
Pump it1 Dump it0      Posted on: 13-Apr-2009

Being a parent is a big responsibility and very difficult at times, but being a single mom can be even more challenging. During tough time you never find anyone around to help you. That's when single moms must take the initiative and search for the answers. It's often helpful to try tips and suggestions offered by other single moms. Mostly there is an argument in our society that single moms cannot raise her son emotionally and physically healthy and that their sons tend to have an effeminate side to their personalities, that is, traits that are more often associated with traditional feminine gender roles rather than masculine roles. But with time myths are breaking. Some of the most famous celebrities raised by single moms are Bill Clinton, Bill Cosby, Tom Cruise and Les Brown.

Parenting Toddlers
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 14-Jul-2008

Toddler is a common term for a young child who is learning to walk or toddle, generally considered to be the second stage of development after infancy and before childhood occurring predominantly during the ages of 12 to 36 months old. When you're a parent, it's important to remember that you're the one in charge.

Your child is a person deserving of respect, but you are the teacher and leader in the family. During this period, the child learns a great deal about social roles and develops motor skills. This age is sometimes referred to as 'the terrible twos', because of the temper tantrums for which they are famous.

Toddler behavior can be surprising, frustrating, and often out-of-control. But once you establish a pattern of discipline that works, you'll spend less time scolding and more time enjoying your tot.

Pregnancy and Morning Sickness
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 25-Jun-2008

Nausea and vomiting are one of the first signs to let you known you are pregnant and usually begins around the 6th week of pregnancy. It can occur at any time of the day and for some of us it can continue for most of the day as well. For the majority of women (those who are fortunate enough) it seems to stop around the 12th week of pregnancy.

The good news is that morning sickness is not harmful to you or your baby. However, if you experience excessive vomiting and cannot keep your food down, you may have hyperemesis gravidarum. This can be harmful to you and your baby if it is severe and left untreated. Due to a possible lack of nutrients and electrolyte imbalance. Remember to visit your health care provider when these symptoms appear and discuss possible options for treatment.

Start each day with a healthy breakfast and keep your diet balanced

Begin each day with a hearty, breakfast. The benefits of a healthy breakfast are well known, especially one that is low in fat, high in fibre, and has a low glycemic index.

When you eat, slow down, enjoy your food and chew it well. Eat a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and to not overcook them, as you will loose all the nutrients.

Try to also include fish at least twice a week especially as the are high in Omega-3, which is also good for your skin. Limit your saturated fats intake by reducing the amount of sauces, gravies and margarine you use and trim excess fat from meats.

Increase the amount of water you drink by aiming to have at least 2 litres a day.

Parent-child bonding: Massaging
Pump it0 Dump it1      Posted on: 17-Mar-2008

Touch, a sense we all take for granted yet we seem to forget how powerful it can be.

Touch stimulates growth hormones and hormones that relieve stress as well as those that support bonding and affection.

A few minutes a day massaging your baby can do wonders. It can help him become more contented and calmer. Massage releases "happy" hormones called endorphins, which help in reducing stress. It also stimulates their senses through skin contact, your familiar smell, eye contact and the sound of your voice. It can include strengthening their muscles and joints and?ease some basic ailments.

Iron in pregnancy
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 17-Mar-2008

Everybody pregnant or not needs a regular intake of iron. Most of it is used to make haemoglobin, the oxygen carrying pigment in the blood. Anaemia is when the body has a iron deficiency, and you may feel tired with poor resistance to infections.

Iron requirements in pregnancy are greater due to the need to produce extra blood cells. Increasing the iron in your diet will help provide the extra iron your body requires.
