How to handle Twins
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 08-Sep-2009

Are you a parent of twins or about to become? Feeling overwhelmed with receiving double happiness in one go! True however becoming a mother means so much responsibilities and commitments, especially when it's twins everything doubles, yes even the fun. It's a challenge to be the parents of twins. Looking after twins can be very stressful to mothers however small tips can really change your life. As parents you need to involve yourself in proper time management so that your challenges and responsibilities do not overshadow a lifetime experience of love and happiness.

twins

Tips to handle twins:

  • Nursing twins: Most important thing and even a problem that arises with twins is nursing. How to feed the two babies at the same time? Just have patience and few supportive friends. Purchase a twin nursing pillow which is thicker, sturdier and can concurrently hold two babies and bring them up to your breasts don't try to bend towards them. Continuously switch sides to avoid getting blocked ducts and not getting all the milk drained from your breast, as babies feed in different styles.
  • Most it's mother's duty to look after babies. But when its twins both the partners should distribute the work and help each other to give equal attention to both the babies. However don't always stick to one particular baby, exchange your duties so that both parents get chance to be with both of the twins.

Help your kids to build strong bones
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 25-May-2009

Bones are the framework for your child's growing body. So parents should be very careful and take special care to help their kids to build strong bones. If a child enters adulthood with low bone density, it will be more difficult for them to avoid problems like Osteoporosis later in life.

strong bones

Diet to make your child's bone strong:

  • Dairy Foods: For strong bones your child needs calcium and dairy products are calcium-rich food. Milk is high in calcium at 300 mg. non-fat yogurt is even higher at almost 500 mg. per serving. Other source of calcium is all types of cheese. Even soy milk has around 400 mg of calcium which is even higher than dairy milk.

But with time myths are breaking. Some of the most famous celebrities raised by single moms are Bill Clinton, Bill Cosby, Tom Cruise and Les Brown.

Helping to develop social skills in toddlers
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 27-Jan-2009

Toddler develop great social skills through the interaction they have with people around them. Different activities help to develop mental, physical, social and emotional skills to stimulate your children's imagination and creativity. As a parent you should involve your child in such activities through which your toddler can understand and learn the world around him.

sharing

Some of the activities that can enhance your toddler's social skills are mentioned here:

  • Importance of Money: Give your child different coins and ask them to count them. Teach your child how to use the money and about money which will enable them to understand the value of it.
  • Indulge them in cooking: Accompany your child in mixing, baking, measuring the ingredients. These are the tasks your kid will enjoy doing and it goes not matter if they make a mess
  • Cleaning work through game: This will give them the sense of responsibility and will be hygienic from the very beginning of their life and they will do it as part of the "norm".
  • Encouraging Play with Others: Always involve and encourage your child to play in a group. This will inculcate the team skills in your child. They will watch and often copy what they see others do, even though they're not yet able to play with them. I am sure untill now your toddler thinks everything is MINE, but they need to learn the skill of sharing. As they grow and become more experienced at play, they'll learn to play with other children. This is called "cooperative" play, and usually happens after the age of 3. In cooperative play, children learn to work and solve problems together, and develop their social skills.

Babies and Jaundice, what is it and how you can help
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 07-Oct-2008

Jaundice is a yellow color that can be seen in the skin, mucous membranes, or eyes. When red blood cells break down, bilirubin is released into the bloodstream. Jaundice is caused by a build-up of bilirubin in the blood. The liver changes bilirubin so that it can leave the body. Jaundice is very common in newborn babies. It is usually easy to spot because the baby's skin and whites of the eyes turn a yellow color. Babies become jaundiced when they have too much bilirubin in their blood. Jaundice usually is not a problem. But in rare cases, too much bilirubin in the blood can cause brain damage. This can lead to hearing loss, mental retardation, and behavior problems.

Pump it1 Dump it0      Posted on: 02-Oct-2008

It's our misfortune that every day there are children living hungry, neglected, sexually exploited, feeling unloved and fearful and the sad reality is that child abuse is severely underreported. Even if abuse has been reported victims almost never speak of their abuse for fear of retaliation. Child abuse refers to any form of physical, psychological, social, emotional or sexual maltreatment of a child.

Parents can do lots of things to help prevent and solve this problem. Before approaching to end the problem look at why it is happening. Due to their limited language and our limited "mind-reading" skills, we are unable to really know exactly what their thinking! Some developmental theorists suggest that biting may be a form of exploration, but as parents we can make some educated guesses.

Discipline your children, is it good or bad?
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 29-Jul-2008

Parenting means so much. It is a full time responsibility and duty to provide and guide your children the best in Life. Children are counterparts of their parents. They learn what they see and whatever they are taught by their parents. Children require help from parents at every level of their life, regardless of their age. But l think the biggest challenge for parents come from the emotional requirements of child rearing.

discipline

There are very few parents that need lessons in how to love their child, the most important emotional ingredient. But, a major dilemma occurs in knowing how best to discipline a child so that in the end we will have a happy, healthy adult with self-discipline. The questions that parents ask themselves often are, Am I too strict? Is my spouse too lenient? Will I spoil my child? Will my child learn to limit his or her self if I impose too many limits? All these questions are concerns for parents.
