It's sad but true, still in our society exists the monsters who can ruin the childhood of your girl child. According to an estimate, around 2, 00,000 girls below the age of 10 are assaulted every year. The reason is their lack of awareness about their body and private parts. It is our responsibility to prepare our child to make them understand when to know that they are being sexually harassed.
How to educate your girl child about sexual abuse:
•Sexual harassment is not only physical. It can be expressed through words, gestures, looks and noises also. Make sure that pre-teens and teens know what kinds of behaviour are considered sexual harassment. Explain them with examples that make sense to them.
•Mothers and teachers should make the child understand why these kinds of behaviours should not be acceptable and should be reported immediately.
•It is very important that the child learn her rights and that she take some action to let the harasser know that his attention is unwanted. Sexual harassment is not the kind of thing that goes away if ignored it. Build a confidence in your child that she can oppose to such actions without being fearful.
•It is important for your daughter to understand that this is not at all her fault and she should not blame herself with what had happened. Make her understand that the other person is at guilt and will be punished for what he has done.
•Make sure that she does not loose her trust on every man around her just because the harasser is a man. Help her to understand the behaviour of people. She must be able to differentiate the normal touch and kiss and the sensual one and you are going to teach her this.
•I know, this is little difficult but you have to make her understand that sexual harassment is not always be attempted by the strangers. Sometimes, even the closest relative can be a defaulter. Build a trust in her that she needs to report it, no matter how close or friendly that person is to her mom.
•If you find something fishy about your daughter, speak with her. It might be something else rather than a sexual harassment, so be careful. However, precaution is always better than cure, so find time to impart her the knowledge of how she should understand and oppose if someone tries to sexually harass her.
•She should be able to understand that even the person of the same sex can make her uncomfortable physically.
All mothers should make it a prime responsibility to take care of the physical and mental health of their daughters.Sexual harassment is a sin and the guilty should be exposed to the society. Help your children to learn that they will have all the support when they want to fight with something which is wrong. This will excel them to become a better person in life.
