When you are pregnant for the first time, Labor and child birth is always an unpredictable and unique experience. You can't even imagine the situation unless you go through the same. With the grace of medical science there are many medications available that can help you to cope with the labor pain, however it's completely your choice whether you want to go for it or not. Let's see the available options:

Water: Warm bath or birth pool during labor can reduce pain, this will make you relax and give you more strength throughout the procedure of labor. Water is now commonly used in both home and hospital settings.

Entonox: Entonox, or gas and air, is a colorless and odorless gas made up of half oxygen and half nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, as it is commonly known. It has a calming effect and takes the edge off labor pain, rather than blocking out the pain completely. It takes at least 30 seconds of breathing for the gas to build up in your bloodstream and give you the desired benefit. You may not get the full benefit until you've been breathing the entonox deeply for about a minute.

TENS: TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. It is a machine that can be used during labor to provide pain relief. This is a small battery powered machine that attaches to your lower back via sticky pads and produces electrical pulses that block pain messages to your brain. ENS is not known to produce any side-effects for mom or baby.

Epidural: An epidural is a very effective way of providing pain relief during labor. It involves passing painkilling drugs into the small of your back through a fine tube. It numbs the nerves around your stomach and for most women will provide total pain relief. Epidurals are only available in hospitals and must be given by an anesthetist. One in 100 women also gets a headache after having an epidural.

Spinal: A spinal is a single painkilling injection that gets to work faster than an epidural. An anesthetist will inject a local anesthetic in the lower part of your back, into the fluid surrounding the spinal nerves, using a very fine needle.
    You will have a spinal:
    • If you are having a planned or emergency caesarean birth.
    • If you want pain relief for stitches after your baby is born.
    • If you need a manual removal of the placenta, in case you have retained placenta.

Apart from these medical solutions try some natural methods. Some of the natural remedies of labor pain are:

1> Focus on your breathing to relax

2> Rest well and feel comfortable

    3> Proper massage
