Fulfilling
the role of Mom while holding down a job is really tough but trust me it's not
impossible. Little planning and family cooperation can balance your personal
and professional life. Fortunately, the prevailing winds are beginning to
change, and women are finding they can balance work and family.
Tips to balance your home and job: Mostly we thing kids are
dependent on us but this not completely true. They are because we make them so.
As a working mom you need to make your child independent. Teach them the basic
routine things like cleaning up their rooms, getting ready for school and going
alone to the bathroom etc. Trust me, your child will learn these small things
very soon and this will make them independent in life which is really very good
for their bright future.
- Create a routine of playing,
study, eating etc and pass the information to your child. So in case you are
not around, your child does all his important tasks in time. Speak to your child and explain the things,
they will take it positively.
- If you have hired nanny,
arrange for a written contact with her regarding what is expected out of her
and what is not. You can set clear guidelines for handling your child and make
them exactly the way you want your child to be reared.
- Make a visit to your child's
school, try to be friendly with all his friends and see whether your child is
in good company or not because he is spending more time with them than you.
Speak to teachers if required to understand the performance of your child.
- Morning time is the most hectic
for a working mother but your child and your spouse can really help you out in
making it easy. Teach kids to clear the table, get their own cereal and load
the dishwasher. Try to keep ready some work a night before like Pack lunches
(or have kids make their own), lay out clothes, ensure homework is done, and
pack backpacks.
- In the evening when everyone is
at home, sit together and discuss about the day and spend some quality time.
Even 15 minutes every day binds the family in one thread which is very
important for a proper emotional growth of your child. Try to plan a family
movie night once a week. Plan a group outing for the weekend. Take the whole
family to a child's sporting event.
- Mostly you don't get much time
to cook, so look for some quick recipes, double a recipe and freeze half for
another meal. Keep lasagnas or other one-dish meals in the freezer for nights
when you don't feel like cooking. Teach your kids to make dinner one night a
week if they are old enough.
- Setting up priority is very
necessary for you. Balancing home with office requires you to take decisions
based n priorities as you cannot afford to neglect any domain. Kids are kids
and they expect certain love, attention and quality time with their mother. You
need to respect that demand and keep weekends particularly for them so that
your children's development does not suffer because of your professional
requirements. Your husband's support is also very important in your mission to
give best to your child and career.
- If possible try to work from
home when your child is sick or needs you the most.
- While balancing home and job
mostly mothers ignore their own health. Keep yourself stress free when you are
not fit mentally and physically how will you take care of your family and
manage your job. Yoga, meditation, exercises, spas and other activities can
help in rejuvenating your mind and body.
So are you
planning to be a mother and scared that you have to sacrifice your career?
Don't be, everything has a solution. Now enjoy your motherhood and achieve your
heights of success too. Remember every mom is a supermom.
