Dr Seuss books - Fun for kids and adults!

Theodor Seuss Geisel was an iconic and beloved American writer and cartoonist, better known by his pen name, Dr. Seuss. He published over 60 children's books, which were often characterized by his imaginative characters, rhyme and frequent use of trisyllabic meter. He made reading such a fun. Not only children even their parents love to read Dr. Seuss books. His choice of words, simple text, presentation of humor and illustration of his imagination was really fabulous and these attributes brought a never ending success to his writing career.

Picture books and books for beginning readers by Dr. Seuss continue to be enormously popular. The rhymes and quirky characters make them particularly appealing. All of the children's books by Dr. Seuss make terrific read-alouds. Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss are particular favorites of beginning. His first children's picture book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street was published in 1937. Dr. Seuss once said, "Children want the same things we want. To laugh, to be challenged, to be entertained, and delighted."

The Cat in the Hat : His publisher sent Geisel a list of 400 words and challenged him to come up with a book that would use about 250 of the words. Geisel used 236 of the words for The Cat in the Hat, and it was an instant success. Preschoolers also thoroughly enjoy the rhyming text, as well as the Cat in the Hat and his shenanigans.

The Cat in the Hat Comes Back: The Cat in the Hat and his high jinks are back in this riotous sequel to The Cat in the Hat. Once again, while mother is out, the Cat in the Hat enlivens things for the two children left at home, Sally and her brother. The Cat in the Hat Comes Back has a controlled vocabulary. The Cat, the story, and the funny illustrations are popular with younger children as well as beginning readers.

Green Eggs and Ham: When publisher Bennett Cerf challenged Dr. Seuss to write a book for beginning readers with 50 words or less, Dr. Seuss wrote Green Eggs and Ham. Dr. Seuss uses rhyming and humor to point out the importance of not judging something before you've tried it.

Horton Hears a Who!: Horton is an extraordinary elephant. His kindness and perseverance save the day for some creatures that are so small that no one else acknowledges their existence. The illustrations are particularly appealing in this classic picture book by Dr. Seuss. This is one of a number of Dr. Seuss books that stresses such qualities as integrity, respect, and responsibility.

Horton Hatches the Egg: This is one of my family's favorite Dr. Seuss picture books. Dr. Seuss's illustrations are so appealing and Horton the elephant is such a sympathetic character that it's irresistible. This picture book is recommend for four- to eight-year-olds.

And To Think that I Saw It on Mulberry Street: Dr. Seuss's first children's picture book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, was published in 1937. A little boy, a walk home, and a big imagination, along with Dr. Seuss's characteristic zany illustrations, make this picture book a favorite with four- to eight-year-olds.

Dr Seuss as we think of him, enjoyed writing entertaining books that encouraged children to read. However he was also concerned with moral and environmental issues and his book "The Lorax" has the theme of someone building a profitable business for themselves at the expense of a natural resource and those who depended on it for their survival.

Dr Seuss received many honors for his work, not least a Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, given to an author or illustrator whose books have made a substantial contribution to and lasting impact on children's literature. At the time of his death in September 1991, 200 million copies of his books, translated into 15 different languages had been sold and sales continue to climb. Despite their differences, all of his characters are portrayed as being just as important as any other, as he says "A person's a person, no matter how small".

On March 2, school children across United States and beyond celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday, with skits, birthday cakes, and reading from his books.

If you or your children have not read any of Dr. Seuss' books, you are in for a treat. I particularly recommend The Cat in the Hat, The Cat in the Hat Comes Back, Green Eggs and Ham, Horton Hatches the Egg, Horton Hears a Who!, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Lorax, And To Think that I Saw It on Mulberry Street, The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, and Oh, the Places You'll Go. You can shop all these and many more books of Dr. Seuss from Amazon.com. They are offering third book free with two books.

Thank you Dr. Seuss for such a wonderful books and making reading a great source of fun for young and old!
