Got a Blister?? Ouch!
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 30-Oct-2009

A blister is a bubble of fluid under the skin. Blisters are the result of your body detecting damage and building up fluids that help repair your body and fight infection. Once the blister has done its job and rupture on its own, l know it's hard not to do it yourself though!

Got a Blister?? Ouch!

Types of Blister:

1.      Friction Blister: A blister occurs when the outer layer of the skin separates from the fiber layer. The skin will re grow from underneath. The loose skin is dead. Blisters can occur from heat, frostbite, chemical injury, or friction.

2.      Blood Blister: A blood blister usually develops following a smashing or pinching injury. There's a small skin injury that pumps blood between the skin layers, rising up a blister of blood. Blood blisters can usually be treated at home.

How to stop overeating, YES YOU CAN!
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 03-Sep-2009

Every one of us wants to look slim and beautiful, but what all you can do to keep your body in shape. Just stop overeating and do regular exercise. Most of us complain about overeating and their efforts to control overeating ends up with depression. Before finding the solution to stop overeating we need to find the scenario that triggers overeating.

How to stop overeating

Reason of overeating:

  • Stress: You overeat when you feel stressed to prevent yourself from feeling bad. Food becomes an easy way to distract you from uncomfortable feelings temporarily.
  • Depression: When you feel down, you're more likely to binge on high-carbohydrate foods, like bread or cookies because they increase production of serotonin, a mood-regulating brain chemical.
  • Socializing: Restaurants and parties tend to offer an overabundance of delicious food, making it more difficult to limit yourself to reasonable portions. Drinking alcohol before a meal compounds is also a problem as alcohol an appetite stimulant.
  • Boredom: You overeat when you're bored because you're looking for stimulation.

Save your skin from the harshness of winter
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 11-Feb-2009

Although the winter season is beautiful and loved by many, it can really make our life difficult. For example, the temperatures are so cold you could get frostbite if you do not rug up. The sidewalks can get so icy you can easily slip. The low humidity during winter causes many beauty mishaps, like uncontrollable static and dry skin, but there are certain things you can do to help make your skin more comfortable.

winter season

  • Keep water lukewarm, not hot, as hot water robs skin of moisture causing dry skin, so it's best to shower in lukewarm water.
  • Moisturize after showers or hand washing: Moisturizer is the key to soft, supple skin in winter. Whenever 'oil' is mentioned with 'skin' in the same sentence, people tend to cringe, but in winter, this can be a good thing. Because water and oil don't mix, the oil forms a protective layer over the skin and moisturizes better than moisturizers called lotions or creams. Pat your dry skin instead of rubbing with your towel before application. Keep moisturizer and facial water on your desk at work and use them with interval.

Tanning and it's different forms
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 16-Dec-2008

Tanning is the skin's reaction to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. When skin is exposed to UV rays, cells called melanocytes produce the brown pigment melanin, which darkens the cells of the epidermis. This darkening of the skin cells is the skin's natural - if imperfect - defense against further damage from UV radiation. Now a days tan skin is a fashion statement. However we must know is tanning safe for health? Let's check out what experts has to stay about this.

Different Forms of Tanning

outdoor tanning

Outdoor Tanning: Sun-tanning outdoors is obviously the most common path to getting a tan. It's natural, relatively free. To achieve a nice bronzed healthy tan, keep safe by not over doing the amount of time you spend in the sun. However this is the most uncontrolled method of tanning. Even when sunscreen is applied, no one can be sure how strong the sun's rays are on any given day and whether the right sunscreen protection level is being used.

Skin Pigmentation Explained
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 13-Dec-2008

Skin pigmentation disorders are conditions that cause the skin to appear lighter or darker than normal, or blotchy and discolored. This is also known as Hyperpigmentation or Hypopigmentation. Skin cells give your skin color by making a substance called melanin. When these cells become damaged or unhealthy, it affects melanin production. Levels of melanin depend on race and amount of sunlight exposure. Melanin production increases with exposure to the skin so as to protect the skin against harmful ultraviolet rays. Some pigmentation disorders affect just patches of skin, others affect your entire body. If your body makes too much melanin, your skin gets darker.

skin pigmintation

Causes:

  • Skin pigmentation disorders occur as a result of the body producing either too much or too little melanin.
  • Drug reactions.
  • Impact of sunlight, the UV from the sun tells the cells to release more melanin in those areas of our bodies exposed to the sun.
  • Hormonal changes, childbirth or birth control pills.
  • Genetic factors.
  • Medications.
  • Emotional stress.

Psoriasis- An itchy skin problem
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 01-Dec-2008

Psoriasis is a non contagious common condition of the skin that causes rapid skin cell reproduction resulting in red, dry patches of thickened skin. There are five types, each with unique signs and symptoms. As mentioned on psoriasis.org, Psoriasis affects an estimated 2-3 percent of the world's population and 125 million people worldwide have psoriasis, according to the World Psoriasis Day consortium.

Between 10-30% of people who develop psoriasis get a related form of arthritis called "psoriatic arthritis," which causes inflammation of the joints. Arthritis may be associated with your psoriasis. The scalp, elbows, knees and lower back are commonly affected, but the face is usually not.

psoriasis

Types of Psoriasis:

Psoriasis vulgaris: About 80% of people with psoriasis have this type, making it the most common. It is also called plaque psoriasis because of the characteristic plaques on the skin. The flaky silvery white buildup on top of the plaques is called scale; it is composed of dead skin cells. Skin affected with psoriasis is generally very dry, and other possible symptoms include skin pain, itching and cracking. psoriasis

Do you suffer from dry skin?
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 04-Oct-2008

Do you suffer from dry skin? Well you are not alone! Many of us have the same problem specially in winters. It creates fine lines & wrinkles and dryness can be exacerbated by wind, extremes of temperature and air-conditioning, all of which cause the skin to flake, chap and feel tight.

dry skin

While you might think that January and February are the worst months for your skin, this is not the case, it's during autumn when you'll notice a drop in humidity and a difference in your skin. For most people, regular use of moisturiser should help guard the skin against chilly weather, but there are some more severe skin conditions that may cause similar symptoms, and these will need extra attention.

Want beautiful skin? Try Exfoliation
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 25-Sep-2008

Exfoliation is a naturally occurring physiological process whereby dead surface skin cells, naturally slough off, and reveal new skin cells. This process naturally takes a long tme, but you can help it along. It is a kind of skin treatment which helps to speed up the process of skin flaking and shedding, by taking off the uppermost, dead layer of cells to expose the finer part. Exfoliation is an important part of both facials and body treatments. When done correctly, exfoliation leaves the skin feeling smoother and fresher looking. Exfoliation also makes penetration easier for expensive facial products like serums.

Facials - the perfect beauty treatment.
Pump it1 Dump it0      Posted on: 28-Aug-2008

A facial is a cosmetic treatment of the face, commonly involving a variety of skin treatments, including: steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, lotions, masks, peels, and massage. Ugly blackheads and whiteheads are cleared by gently steaming the face. Regular clean-ups can prevent and reduce skin problems.

Types of Facials:

Normal facials
These facials are a simple cleanse steam and massage affair. They're the least expensive of all facials. They're also the best option for normal skin that isn't prone to acne. The difference between these facials and a clean up is that the skin is massaged for a longer period of time in a facial.

Pump it2 Dump it0      Posted on: 17-Jun-2008

If you are allergic to the Sun then you have allergy called cell-mediated or delayed allergies. This allergy type usually shows up on the back of the neck, outside surface of the arms, on the lower legs, and on the back of the hands. Why the immune system of some people is triggered to produce an allergic reaction to sunlight is unknown.
