Worried about a Headache?
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 03-Sep-2009

Headache is becoming very common among all of us due to highly technical, busy daily schedule. Long hours on computer, stress and tension all triggers headache. Although most headaches are mild and temporary, but some people have headaches that are so severe they need to consult a doctor for pain relief.

Worried about a Headache?

Main causes for headache:

  • Prolonged tension or stress, known as tension headaches
  • Migraine is especially triggered due to hormonal changes, certain foods, strong odors, lack of sleep and even stress.
  • Eyestrain
  • Smoking
  • Light sensitivity
  • Sitting constantly in an abnormal position.
  • Sinus headaches can occur after upper respiratory infections such as a cold.
  • Cluster headaches are a relatively uncommon type of headache. They tend to occur in clusters over a few days, weeks or months with long headache-free periods lasting from months to years.

Although headaches can be painful and debilitating, they are usually not due to dangerous conditions. However, occasionally headaches can be a sign of something more serious.

Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 31-Aug-2009

Mostly it happens with women; we ignore small pains in different body parts. But we shouldn't, a small simple pain can be a big problem if not treated in time. So just don't overlook your health. You are precious to yourself, to your family so take good care. Lets talk serious and see what these pains can mean, but buy all means get them checked out by your doctor if you have any worries what so ever.

pains

Let's see what these pain areas are:

Headache: Normally a headache is handled very casually by us but that's a mistake. In case you have a cold it could be a sinus headache and can be cured easily however it can be anything serious. So with any pain, unless you're sure of what caused it, get it checked out.

Stomach ache: Normally you think stomach ache is the result of a gas or a reaction to something that you have eaten but if you are getting such pain frequently you must see doctor. This could be a sign that you have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), ulcers, gallbladder, or pancreatic disease. Even the worst-case scenario can be ovarian cancer, but hwy go over board!

Painful periods: Monthly painful periods are common and you may not take it seriously but this is not at all correct.  If the medications that you take don't help alleviate the pain, visit your doctor to find out if you have endometriosis. In this condition, women experience severe pain due to the accumulation of misplaced endometrial tissue on the tubes, ovaries, and bowel. It can lead to infertility and chronic pain if not treated.

Swine Flu Updates
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 27-Jun-2009

We all know about Swine Flu it has grabbed the entire worlds attention. The World Health Organization (WHO) officials have already declared the new virus strain a worldwide epidemic due to its rapid spread through everyday human-to-human contact.

  1. swine fluSwine Flu started in April 2009 in United States and Mexico and slowly it has reached in most of the parts of world.
  2. End of April, seven countries have officially reported cases of swine influenza A/H1N1 infection. Canada, United States, Mexico, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Israel and Spain reported the cases of Swine Flu.
  3. By May 09' virus also infected people in Austria, Germany, Netherlands and Switzerland. With time more than 70 countries are now reporting cases of human infection with novel H1N1 flu.
  4. Over 5000 cases of Swine Flu in the entire world. And according to WHO, 238 deaths has been confirmed with the maximum no of deaths is in United States of America and Mexico.

The World Health Organization declared the sixth stage of the transition mainly due to a rise in the "number of" cases in Australia, and not the result of the increase in "severe" or "seriousness" of the virus.

swine flu toll

WHO suggested there is also no risk of infection from this virus from consumption of well-cooked pork and pork products. Individuals are advised to wash hands thoroughly with soap and water on a regular basis and should seek medical attention if they develop any symptoms of influenza-like illness. Individuals who are ill should delay travel plans and returning travelers who fall ill should seek appropriate medical care. These recommendations are prudent measures which can limit the spread of many communicable diseases, including influenza.

In the United States, most people who have become ill with the newly declared pandemic virus have recovered without requiring medical treatment, however, CDC anticipates that there will be more cases, more hospitalizations and more deaths associated with this pandemic in the coming days and weeks. Vaccines are a very important part of a response to pandemic influenza and the U.S. Government is aggressively taking early steps in the process to manufacture a novel H1N1 vaccine.

AIDS - Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 02-May-2009

aidsAIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, "Acquired" means you can get infected with it, "Immune Deficiency" means a weakness in the body's system that fights diseases and "Syndrome" means a group of health problems that make up a disease. AIDS is caused by a virus called HIV, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. People who have the HIV antibodies are called "HIV-Positive." Being HIV-positive, or having HIV disease, is not the same as having AIDS. Many people are HIV-positive but don't get sick for many years. As HIV disease continues, it slowly wears down the immune system. Viruses, parasites, fungi and bacteria that usually don't cause any problems can make you very sick if your immune system is damaged. These are called "opportunistic infections."

Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 23-Sep-2008

Food poisoning is an illness caused by eating foods that have harmful organisms in them. These harmful germs can include bacteria, parasites, and viruses. Food poisoning is a common, usually mild, but sometimes deadly illness. Typical symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, and diarrhea that occur suddenly (within 48 hours) after consuming a contaminated food or drink. You must admit, at some stage in yout life you have suffered food poisoning, but what is it and what causes it?

Eat-Well-Stay-Well

Causes: The known causes of food poisoning can be divided into two categories: infectious agents and toxic agents.

 bacteria
  • Infectious agents include viruses, bacteria, and parasites.
  • Toxic agents include poisonous mushrooms, improperly prepared exotic foods (such as barracuda), or pesticides on fruits and vegetables.
  • Food usually becomes contaminated from poor sanitation or preparation. Food handlers who do not wash their hands after using the bathroom or have infections themselves often cause contamination. Improperly packaged food stored at the wrong temperature also promotes contamination.
