Blighted Ovum - a cause of miscarriage
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 25-Oct-2009

Have you ever faced a shocking situation when your doctor says there is no Fetus inspite of the fact that you are pregnant? Yes! You are not the single women that this has happened to; there are many women who go through same pain and depression. Blighted Ovum is the most common cause of miscarriage among women. A blighted ovum usually takes place in your first trimester, before you know that you are pregnant.

Blighted Ovum - cause of miscarriage

What is blighted ovum?

Blighted ovum possibly takes place when a full fertilized egg, which has already developed placenta and membrane, sticks to the walls of your uterus and hence there will not be any growth of embryo in your womb. You may not have any signs at all (such as pain or bleeding) that the pregnancy is not progressing normally. The pregnancy hormones in your system make you feel pregnant, though sometimes if the levels are quite low the signs of pregnancy may lessen - for instance your breasts may feel less tender.

When it occurs:

It occurs when a fertilized egg develops a placenta and membrane but no embryo - often due to chromosomal abnormalities in the fertilized egg. A blighted ovum usually occurs in the first few weeks of pregnancy, often before a woman even knows she's pregnant.

Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 16-Sep-2009

Miscarriage is the most painful and depressing situation for any women who desired pregnancy. A miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy before 24 weeks. Unfortunately, miscarriage is very common, affecting one in eight pregnancies. The chance of losing your first pregnancy is greater than later ones.

Miscarriage - it's sad!

Causes:

  • Due to a problem in the way your genetic material (chromosomes) combined when your egg and your partner's sperm has joined during fertilization.
  •
  • Imbalances in pregnancy hormones
  •
  • Problems with your immune system
  •
  • It's more common as you get older, because egg quality decreases with age.
  •
  • Smoking may increase the risk of miscarriage
Symptoms include the following
  • Usually the foetus, placenta and blood from the uterus leave the body through the vagina.
  •
  • Cramping and pain in your pelvis or back
  •
  • The cramping and bleeding may be very mild, moderate, or severe.
  •
  • Symptoms of pregnancy, such as breast tenderness, feeling sick and frequent urine, stop unexpectedly.
  •
  • If you have vaginal bleeding at any time during pregnancy, you should contact your doctor.
