The skin on your feet suffers more than that on any other part of the body because it is encased in shoes all day. And this constriction can sometimes lead to sweaty or swollen feet.

One of the commonest problems is foot odor. One way of getting rid of this is dusting your feet once or twice a day with deodorising powder or spray. Another is a change of footwear. Shoes made of natural materials or fibers allow your skin to breathe, unlike those made from synthetic materials which make feet sweat and trap air inside the shoe.

It is said that the consumption of spicy foot is one of the causes of foot odor, but this is probably an old wives’ tale rather than an established fact.

Another problem is dead skin. Whenever you take a bath or a shower do you take the trouble to give your feet a good scrub? Maybe not so often, as you have to reach a long way down to get to the region of your toes. But unless you check carefully and regularly you may not notice that patches of dead skin have built up on your feet. The answer to this is to dissolve some Epsom Salts in warm water, soak your feet for about ten minutes and then rub the rough areas with a pumice stone.

Also, sometime you will find corns or calluses. These are bumps of hardened skin caused by the constant rubbing of areas on your feet by tight shoes. These can be removed in the same way as dead skin, and then treated with an exfoliating, urea-based lotion.

But the best way to avoid all these problems is to treat your feet with more respect by wearing more comfortable shoes. Of course, the desire to be fashionable, to look good, always comes into play, but if you can find up-to-date footwear that is made of reasonably soft leather then this what you should go for.
