Balance your Life!
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 30-Sep-2009

In one life we have to play different roles, for example l am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, granddaughter, cousin, cleaner, dishwasher, clothes drier, clothes washer, iron lady, chauffer, cook....just to name a few. If l had to get paid by the hour for what l do and how many hours l put in l would be a millionaire by now and l guess paying someone else  to do these things, lol! But instead l need to find balance in my life each day so that all these tasks can be done, l can be sane and l can also have time to myself. So here are some helpful tips....

  • Try to go for work early and don't take work home. This will require you to learn how to switch of from work when you get home, so that you can spend more "quality" time at home with your family.
  • Always try to avoid working in weekends if you can, they are short enough as it is, lol
  • In your day planner along with meeting schedules also write birthdays as you always look in it and you can plan ahead.
  • Take a break during work and do some stretching exercises right at your seat or get up each hour to get a glass of water, or make a herbal tea.
  • Eat healthy, your body will thank-you for it. I found these great healthy snacks, that taste great and are good for you and they are Only In A Woman's World Frito Lay products which include Smartfood popcorn clusters, SunChips or 100 Calorie Pack. Once you try them you will never go back to eating anything else.
  • If you are tight for time, do your exercise during your lunch hour, or if you are a busy stay at home mum, put your baby in the stroller and go for a power walk.
  • Take time out each day to do something you like, whether it is to do a facial, catch up on your reading or just to relax.
  • Call your friends so see how they are going so at least they know you are thinking of them.

You are the CEO of your life so take control and manage it well. You ultimately need to find what is right for you and what brings balance to your life. But l hope these tips can help you get started. This post was sponsored by Only In A Woman's World, to check out more go to www.awomansworld.com

Fast food can also be healthy
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 17-Sep-2009

Do you and your family love eating fast food but generally kill your craving for the sake of health? Don't worry, there's good news for all the lovers of fast food. Even you can prepare or choose healthy fast food and enjoy the same taste.

Fast food

Tips to choose healthy fast food in restaurants:

  • Menu selection plays very crucial role. Always order dishes with more vegetables and leaner meats. Try to avoid dishes labeled deep-fried, pan-fried, basted, batter-dipped, breaded, creamy, crispy, scalloped, Alfredo, au gratin or in cream sauce as they are high in calories.
  • When it comes to beverage, don't drink soda, it has lots of hidden calories. Try adding a little lemon to your water or ordering unsweetened iced tea.
  • Checking the dressing is also very important as dressings like spreads, cheese, and sour cream are high in calories. Always undress your food and try to add ketchups and mustard yourself according to the taste and requirement.
  • You can always ask to prepare your food little differently which will bring a huge difference for your health. For instance, ask for olive oil and vinegar for your salads or order the dressing "on the side" and spoon only a small amount on at a time. If your food is fried or cooked in oil or butter, ask to have it broiled or steamed.
  • Deciding on size is also important. Don't supersize anything, have a small portion.
  • Do remember, fast foods are very high on salt, so never add more sodium; this may result to high blood pressure.
  • Chew your food more thoroughly and avoid eating on the run. Eat mindfully, mindful eating relaxes you, so you digest better, and makes you feel more satisfied.

Best vegetables for salad
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 08-Sep-2009

We all know the health benefits of salad however it's very important to choose vegetables for salad. Including nutritious vegetables in your salad will make it a healthy diet. If possible, salads should be made entirely of raw vegetables and raw fruits. Do not mix too many foods in a meal, it may spoil the taste. There is no point making salads so complex, when simplicity is a requirement for building health.

Best vegetables for salad.

Best Vegetables for salad:

Lettuce: Lettuce is the foundation for your salad. If you prefer iceberg lettuce, look for a dark green and weighty head, with no brown spots on the stem or outer leaves. Check the condition of red leaves in bagged lettuce because they tend to spoil first. It's nutritious and tasty too.

Raw broccoli: This adds crunch and powerful phytochemicals, nutrients found only in plants, to your salad. Look for heads with tight, even florets. Color should be an even dark green or bluish-green. Squeeze stalks gently to ensure firmness and check that leaves are intact. You can also try packaged broccoli.

Get ready to hit the pool and beaches this summer! Winter has already said good bye and summer is just about to approach with lots of fun and relaxation.  Well for some of us, because for others like me we need to think abut how we are going to look good (or at least Ok) in a bathing suit.  Winter has left many of us lethargic, due to those days and nights of extra eating. But, as we know summer is all about beaches and poosl, and that's synonymous to shorts, small tops, and bikinis. So lets get into shape and the only way is through hard work. Start a workout and diet plan today and lose those extra pounds that are creating a barrier in the path of your enjoyment.

Let's focus on some of the easy workouts that can help you lose those extra pounds:

Pilates is a low impact workout that anyone can do and here are some simple exercises you can do at home.

The hundred, this is a start up exercise:

  1. Bring your legs to 'table top,' which immediately pushes on your core.
  2. Peel your head, neck and shoulders up and raise your arms next to you about hip height.
  3. Pump your arms up and down, inhaling for five counts and then exhaling for five counts for a series of one hundred pumps in total.

Roll up:

  1.  Lay flat on your back with your knees pulled in and feet on the floor.
  2. Begin a series of roll ups.
  3. Inhale, then exhale as you lift your head up over your chest, your chest and mid section up off the floor, and sit up nice and tall with your arms stretched out in front of you the entire time.
  4. Inhale again, and then exhale as you pull your tummy in and slowly lie back down on your back, rolling down one vertebra at a time until your head is resting on the floor and your arms are back at your side.
  5. Do this five to six times. You may have to use your hands to help pull yourself up the first few times, but when you become a pro there is no stopping you.

Wrong ways of losing weight
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 15-May-2009

To lose weight generally people opt for shortcut methods that seem working fast however in a longer run the result can be more dangerous. The healthiest way to lose weight is neither crash diets nor bursts of exercise. The body likes slow changes in terms of food and exercise. The most effective way to lose weight is to reduce the amount of calories you eat and increase your levels of activity.

weight

Some wrong methods for losing weight:

  • Starving: When you suddenly start starving themselves. Diets that severely restrict calories or the types of food 'allowed' can lead you to be deficient in the nutrients and vitamins that your body needs.

diets

  • Dieting: US scientists conducting a comprehensive review of dieting research have concluded that dieting does not work. Through dieting you can initially lose 5 to 10 percent of your weight on any number of diets, but then the weight comes back. A few of the essential elements of any diet are that it must result in long-term changes in eating patterns, and it must be individualized to you and your lifestyle. It must also include 3 meals a day, contain adequate calories for you to function and stay healthy, and it must contain a good balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and fat. And once you start dieting your body gets deficient of important nutrition.

Know the facts about Fat free food
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 04-Apr-2009

For a product to be fat free, it must contain less than 0.5g of fat per serving. This is all very well if we eat the stated serving size of that food, say one cookie. But if we consume more than a serving of that food, it ceases to be fat free. All those fractions of a gram will count towards your daily fat intake. Remember, fat free doesn't mean calorie free.

fat free

How Much Fat Should We Eat?

  • Total fat intake should be between 20 and 35 percent of total calories.
  • Less than 10 percent of calories should come from saturated fats, such as those found in animal products (meat and full-fat dairy).
  • Most fat should come from monounsaturated or polyunsaturated sources (for instance, fish, nuts, canola and olive oils and spreads.
  • We should keep consumption of trans fats as low as possible
  • We should consume less than 300mg of cholesterol a day
