Epilepsy Seizure disorder explained
Pump it1 Dump it0      Posted on: 04-Jun-2009

Epilepsy is a kind of brain disorder in which clusters of nerve cells, or neurons, in the brain sometimes signal abnormally. More than 2 million people in the United States about 1 in 100 have experienced an unprovoked seizure or been diagnosed with epilepsy. Brain is a highly complex electrical system, powered by roughly 80 pulses of energy per second. These pulses move back and forth between nerve cells to produce thoughts, feelings, and memories. An epileptic seizure occurs when these energy pulses come much more rapidly-as many as 500 per second for a short time-due to an electrical abnormality in the brain. Any kind of changes in the brain is known as epileptic seizure. Epilepsy is not contagious.

epilepsy disorderCauses:

  • Epilepsy may develop because of an abnormality in brain wiring, an imbalance of nerve signaling chemicals called neurotransmitters, or some combination of these factors.
  • In some cases, the brain's attempts to repair itself after a head injury, stroke, or other problem may inadvertently generate abnormal nerve connections that lead to epilepsy.
  • Research suggests that genetic abnormalities may be some of the most important factors contributing to epilepsy.
  • Epilepsy develops as a result of brain damage from other disorders like brain tumors, alcoholism, and Alzheimer's disease.
  • Seizures can result from exposure to lead, carbon monoxide, and many other poisons.

We work out long ours for a healthy body and beautiful shape however often forget the most important part of our body that controls the entire body function. Yes you are right I am talking about our brain. We must do some regular exercises to keep our brain sharp. Exercise increases blood flow to your whole body, including your brain. And exercise seems to slow the loss of brain tissue that typically begins in your 40s. Normal aging processes can make it difficult to recall certain facts. Studies have found that exercise seems to delay or sometimes prevent these specific aging-related changes in your brain. It may even help in memory improvement.

Alzheimer's: A Debilitating Disease
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 21-Nov-2008

Alzheimer's disease is a brain disorder. It is the most common form of dementia, and this terminal, progressive brain disorder has no known cause or cure. Vascular dementia, another common type of dementia, is caused by reduced blood flow to parts of the brain.

learn about AD

In mixed dementia, Alzheimer's and vascular dementia occur together. Alzheimer's destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior severe enough to affect work, lifelong hobbies or social life. Alzheimer's gets worse over time. Alzheimer's Disease Research (ADR), a program of the American Health Assistance Foundation, seeks to avert this tidal wave by funding research to find a cure. As many as 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease! What a huge number.
