Balance your Life!
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 30-Sep-2009

In one life we have to play different roles, for example l am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, granddaughter, cousin, cleaner, dishwasher, clothes drier, clothes washer, iron lady, chauffer, cook....just to name a few. If l had to get paid by the hour for what l do and how many hours l put in l would be a millionaire by now and l guess paying someone else  to do these things, lol! But instead l need to find balance in my life each day so that all these tasks can be done, l can be sane and l can also have time to myself. So here are some helpful tips....

  • Try to go for work early and don't take work home. This will require you to learn how to switch of from work when you get home, so that you can spend more "quality" time at home with your family.
  • Always try to avoid working in weekends if you can, they are short enough as it is, lol
  • In your day planner along with meeting schedules also write birthdays as you always look in it and you can plan ahead.
  • Take a break during work and do some stretching exercises right at your seat or get up each hour to get a glass of water, or make a herbal tea.
  • Eat healthy, your body will thank-you for it. I found these great healthy snacks, that taste great and are good for you and they are Only In A Woman's World Frito Lay products which include Smartfood popcorn clusters, SunChips or 100 Calorie Pack. Once you try them you will never go back to eating anything else.
  • If you are tight for time, do your exercise during your lunch hour, or if you are a busy stay at home mum, put your baby in the stroller and go for a power walk.
  • Take time out each day to do something you like, whether it is to do a facial, catch up on your reading or just to relax.
  • Call your friends so see how they are going so at least they know you are thinking of them.

You are the CEO of your life so take control and manage it well. You ultimately need to find what is right for you and what brings balance to your life. But l hope these tips can help you get started. This post was sponsored by Only In A Woman's World, to check out more go to www.awomansworld.com

Hormonal Acne Treatment
Pump it1 Dump it0      Posted on: 25-Aug-2009

Acne is a great problem especially among women that hampers our skin and we feel embarrassed to face any one with the marks of acne. There can be many reason of acne, even hormonal disorders are also responsible for acne. Acne is thought to be initiated by the effect of masculinising hormones called "androgens" on oil glands that, during puberty, enlarge and become increasingly sensitive. Hormonal therapy for acne is, therefore, meant to interrupt this initial phase of this cascading sequence of acne development. Hormonal acne is seen mostly in women due to the natural cycles a woman goes through, such as menstruation, pregnancy and menopause. Look at our other post on acne.

acne

Causes of Acne:

  • The first event leading to acne is stimulation of the sebaceous (oil making) glands by testosterone.
  • A hormonal imbalance is one of the leading causes of acne.
  • Bacteria grow in the trapped oil, causing the production of irritating chemicals.
  • The body's immune system fights these bacteria and in turn causes the redness, swelling, pus-like fluid and later scarring which make acne so unsightly.
  • Pregnant women are especially susceptible to acne, since the hormones associated with pregnancy often cause the overproduction of oil in the skin.
  • Acne is worse in the week before their period. Exact reason is still not known.

Skin care for Acne:

  • Proper skin care is very essential for women with acne.

  • Should only apply non-comedogenic preparations to their skin.

  • A soap-free skin cleanser or a soap that is only slightly drying for dry skin is best. Soaps with perfume or high moisturizer content are not good.

  • Sunbathing may therefore exacerbate acne in the long run. Use of a non-comedogenic sun screen lotion that has a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15 is recommended.

  • For mild acne, regular use of a skin cleanser at least twice a day.

  • Selection of proper moisturizer is very important for your acne treatment.

When none of the home treatment helps you should go to dermatologist.

Hormonal acne treatment: Various oral medications have been developed to cure adult hormonal acne.

  • The hormonal acne treatment prescribed by a doctor will prevent the androgen hormones like testosterone to over-stimulate the production of the oil glands.

  • Based on a physical examination, a patient's medical history and the success or failure of previously prescribed acne treatments, dermatologists may recommend hormonal therapy to enhance the results of acne treatment in women.

  • Two types of drugs that are regularly prescribed especially to women: medications that block the testosterone and others that lower the levels of this hormone.

  • Among the most common medications for hormonal Acne treatment are anti-androgens, oral corticosteroids (anti-inflammatory products), and oral contraceptives.

  • Anti-androgens minimize the risks of the skin becoming too oily, which in turn will prevent acne from forming.

For hormonal treatment testing for hormonal acne is important. When you notice more acne and possible extra hair growth, you should contact for hormonal treatment. This will allow the hormonal acne treatments to take place if the test has shown that it is your hormones that are causing the problem. Not only can the hormonal acne treatment be used to help with your acne problem, but medicine can be given to you to help out with the extra hair growth, the irregular periods, and any other problems you might be experiencing.

Save your skin from the harshness of winter
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 11-Feb-2009

Although the winter season is beautiful and loved by many, it can really make our life difficult. For example, the temperatures are so cold you could get frostbite if you do not rug up. The sidewalks can get so icy you can easily slip. The low humidity during winter causes many beauty mishaps, like uncontrollable static and dry skin, but there are certain things you can do to help make your skin more comfortable.

winter season

  • Keep water lukewarm, not hot, as hot water robs skin of moisture causing dry skin, so it's best to shower in lukewarm water.
  • Moisturize after showers or hand washing: Moisturizer is the key to soft, supple skin in winter. Whenever 'oil' is mentioned with 'skin' in the same sentence, people tend to cringe, but in winter, this can be a good thing. Because water and oil don't mix, the oil forms a protective layer over the skin and moisturizes better than moisturizers called lotions or creams. Pat your dry skin instead of rubbing with your towel before application. Keep moisturizer and facial water on your desk at work and use them with interval.

Do you suffer from dry skin?
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 04-Oct-2008

Do you suffer from dry skin? Well you are not alone! Many of us have the same problem specially in winters. It creates fine lines & wrinkles and dryness can be exacerbated by wind, extremes of temperature and air-conditioning, all of which cause the skin to flake, chap and feel tight.

dry skin

While you might think that January and February are the worst months for your skin, this is not the case, it's during autumn when you'll notice a drop in humidity and a difference in your skin. For most people, regular use of moisturiser should help guard the skin against chilly weather, but there are some more severe skin conditions that may cause similar symptoms, and these will need extra attention.

Want beautiful skin? Try Exfoliation
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 25-Sep-2008

Exfoliation is a naturally occurring physiological process whereby dead surface skin cells, naturally slough off, and reveal new skin cells. This process naturally takes a long tme, but you can help it along. It is a kind of skin treatment which helps to speed up the process of skin flaking and shedding, by taking off the uppermost, dead layer of cells to expose the finer part. Exfoliation is an important part of both facials and body treatments. When done correctly, exfoliation leaves the skin feeling smoother and fresher looking. Exfoliation also makes penetration easier for expensive facial products like serums.

Liposuction, you can suck it up!
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 23-Sep-2008

Liposuction, also known as liposculpture is a surgical technique that improves the body's contour by removing excess fat from deposits located between the skin and muscle. How many times have you looked at your body and said, l wish this was not here, l need a bit of lipo! So what is liposuction and what does it mean to you?

logo

Liposuction can be done on your abdomen, hips, thighs, inside of the knees, ankles, upper arms, neck and back. So basically anywhere where we would like the fat to go from. Your body won't replace the fat cells, so you should have a long-lasting change in your body shape, especially if you exercise, eat a healthy diet, and maintain a healthy weight after your operation. Liposuction is usually done as a day case. The operation is usually carried out under a general anesthetic. This means you will be asleep during the procedure. You will be asked not to eat or drink for about six hours before a general anesthetic.

Healthy hair and your diet
Pump it0 Dump it0      Posted on: 16-Apr-2008

Just like your body, your hair also needs a balanced diet to stay healthy and shinny.

Diet solution for dry and brittle hair:

If your hair is dry and breaks effortlessly, then your diet needs more essential fatty acids.

You can find them in oily fish such as tuna, sardines, trout, salmon and herring. It is also found in seeds, nuts, olives and avocados. You should try to eat four servings of oily fish a week.
