A good night of sleep helps boost your energy, it improves your mood, and it can even help you burn more fat. Many American women, men and children are sleep deprived. Many of us rely heavily upon caffeine, sugar and even energy drinks to get us going and help us keep going throughout the day. Sugar, caffeine and chemicals are not the answer! You can get a good night of sleep naturally and help your body to burn more fat both while you’re sleeping and while you’re awake.
The Connection between Sleep and Fat
When you don’t get enough sleep, your metabolism is negatively affected. Beyond consuming too much sugar and caffeine to try to make up for the lack of sleep, not sleeping enough can increase appetite and hunger. People who do not get enough quality sleep on a regular basic also tend to crave high-carb, high-calorie foods which are often sugary, salty, and starchy.
Sleep-starved bodies then fill up on unhealthy foods and feel even more sluggish and often depressed. Feeling sluggish and unhappy decrease the likeliness that the person will exercise or participate in other healthy activities, meaning they are likely not going to burn off those extra calories they consumed.
Extra calories, less physical activity and an out-of-whack metabolism can quickly lead to weight gain. Lack of sleep can also cause a variety of other health and psychological problems such as fatigue and anxiety, which can also affect weight in all the wrong ways.
Better Sleep = More Energy = Burn More Fat
A good night of sleep helps you have more energy, feel better emotionally, and have better concentration during your waking hours. Better concentration means you’re able to optimize your working and waking hours. Happier, more positive moods also help you at work and after. Having more energy from all-natural sleep means you can cut out, (or at least drastically decrease), all the unhealthy sugar, caffeine, high-carb, high-calorie crap that often results from too little sleep.
Being more effective and efficient at work gives you more free time outside of work. Being in a better mood allows you to better utilize that free time to exercise, play sports, play with your children and/or pets, garden, and other healthy physical activities that help you burn more fat.
Exercises to Burn More Fat and Sleep Better
Exercise and physical activity not only help you burn more fat but they also help you sleep better. Exercise helps reduce stress and even cause immediate physical changes in the body. Exercise can help reduce the amount of stress hormones present in your body which, in turn, can help lower blood pressure and heart rate. These physical changes in the body help promote better, more restful sleep.
Aromatherapy and Music for Better Sleep
Beyond exercise, you can also use relaxing music and aromatherapy for sleep. Listening to relaxing music or even white noise can help promote sleep. Aromatherapy candles, oils and spray can also help you get to sleep quicker and sleep more peacefully. Lavender is great for relaxation and is widely available in candles, bath oils, essential oils and even sprays you can use in your bedroom and on your pillow and bed linens.
Proper diet and a great exercise are obviously important to burn more fat and lose weight. The key component to weight loss that many folks overlook is plentiful, restful sleep. Sleep better, burn more fat, and feel great.
