It's sad to know that Asthma is the leading cause of chronic illness in children. It affects as many as 10%-12% of children in the U.S. and still reason is unknown. As winter is approaching and Kids with asthma have a tougher time during the fall and winter months, so parents need to be careful and should have a proper plan of action.
In case you are not sure whether your child is suffering from Asthma, have a check and observe these symptoms:
• Chronic and regular cough and wheezing
• Chest tightness or shortness of breath
• Less energy during play and rapid breathing
• See-saw motions (retractions) in the chest from labored breathing
• Tightened neck and chest muscles
If there is a family history of allergy or asthma, especially mother, you need to be more careful.
Risk Factors that triggers asthma:
• Allergies, so protect your kids from smoke and dust
• Frequent respiratory infections, must have a regular check up.
• Low birth weight
• Family history of asthma and/or allergies
• Exposure to tobacco smoke before and/or after birth, Try to avoid smoking in front of kids.
Precaution measure by parents: When you know your child is suffering from Asthma, as a parent you should have a plan for emergency.
• Parents need to know how much medicine it takes to achieve control.
• At the first sign of trouble, parents should give their child 'rescue' medications. If that did not remedy the situation or if symptoms continued to worsen, parents should call the doctor.
• Keep your child away from dust mites, pet dander or tobacco smoke.
• Allergy shots are also helpful.
With proper care and correct medication on time any child suffering from asthma can lead a normal life so speak to your doctor and get the necessary precautionary measure for your child.
