Not all diets are created equal. If you want to lose weight in a healthy way (and keep off the pounds!), here are some common diet myths to avoid.

    Skipping Meals to Save Calories
No matter how rushed you are in the morning, always include a morning meal. If you skip breakfast, you actually slow down your metabolism. On the other hand, eating something for breakfast kickstarts your metabolism, which actually makes you burn more calories throughout the day.

    Avoid all Carbs and Starches
Cutting carbs from your diet to lose weight quickly is not a good long-term solution. Instead, just monitor the type of carbs you eat, and avoiding the unhealthy ones. Your body and brain need carbohydrates to function, but avoid refined carbs such as pasta, white bread, and cookies. Foods such as veggies, yogurt, and fruit also have carbs.

Similarly, it is true that starchy foods such as white rice and pizza have very little nutritional value. However, starchy vegetables and whole grains are necessary for fiber. Include beans, lentils, legumes, whole wheat, oats, barley, vegetables, pears, and raspberries in your diet. These are all high in fiber and will make you feel full.

    “Cheat Days” and Emotional Eating
Giving yourself "cheat days" has negative connotations, and leads to feelings of guilt and emotional eating. Instead of obsessing over dieting and "allowing" yourself to eat or not eat certain things at certain times, strive to just have an overall healthy and balanced diet.

If you have a moment of weakness and indulge in an unhealthy meal, don’t throw in the towel and consider your healthy-eating lifestyle a lost cause. Take each meal as a fresh start; everyone slips up, just strive to stay healthy!

    Dieting Gets Rid of Cellulite
Unfortunately, you cannot diet away cellulite. Exercising is also key! Incorporate regular exercise into your weekly routine. This will help up circulation and keep your lymphatic system functioning well, which prevents cellulite from worsening.

Counting Calories: Not Just a Numbers Game
There are good and bad calorie options. Different types and sources of calories will give you different results. It’s important to choose foods that signal your body to burn fat, such as yogurt, oatmeal, and nuts.

Weight Loss Formula = Exercise More and Eat Less
More sessions at the gym do not automatically lead to weight loss. Your body will attempt to balance your energy expenditure and energy intake. In other words, if you exercise more, your body will tell you to eat more. And if you eat less, your body will tell you exercise less. So, the goal is not simply to eat less, but to eat well!

    Cut Out all Chocolate
Great news-you can till treat yourself when you are on a diet! Certainly, don’t include a candy bar with every meal. But satisfy that chocolate craving with a square of dark chocolate. Not only will your sweet tooth by happy, dark chocolate is good for your heart and brain.
