    walking

My roommate and I have started going on these long rambling walking dates and its not only been great for our asses, but it’s been a great way to supercharge our friendship. Being city women, we tend to operate on high efficiency mode: take the most direct path, the fastest route, and don’t dawdle.

Now that the weather is warming up in the southern hemisphere and cooling off a bit in the northern, there is no better time of year to get into the habit of a rambling walk with someone you like.

Emma suggested that we start exploring our neighborhood via long long walks because office life means being cooped up inside. We usually have a destination but no real schedule - lately our loose plan has been to eventually end up in this great park a couple kilometers from the house.

But from there, we take it easy. We stop and look at the buildings and take in street art and flowers. We go a different way. We get sorta lost and then back on track. We reminisce and talk and gossip; we get things off our chests; everything gets processed.

We bring the dog but are really taking ourselves on a walk.

The act of walking is great cardio that you can still do in a sundress. Its inherently anti-stress (as long as you don’t wander into the wrong neighborhood…) You get a different sense of the street, you feel calmer, so many clichés happen. It’s that thing that you always know somewhere in the back of your mind that you should do more of but never quite have the time.

So next time you need to catch up with one of your favorite ladies but don’t feel like just going to Starbucks again, meet up for a wander on a nice afternoon. You’ll both be like, why didn’t we don’t this sooner?
