Spinning - The best way to burn calories


Spinning is an aerobic exercise that takes place on a specially designed stationary bicycle called a spinning bike. Spinning is relatively safe because it is done with a smooth rotary motion that does not involve road shock of running. Spinning burns a large number of calories (about 450 in 45 minutes) and offers an awesome aerobic workout that makes your heart pump fast. It also tones your quadriceps (front thigh muscles) and outer thigh muscles!

Because you stay in one place with the same basic movement throughout, Spinning doesn't involve a lot of coordination, it's easier to do than other types of aerobic classes. And although you follow the general instructions of the spinning teacher, you are in control when it comes to your pace. You can finish a spin class, regardless of your fitness level, simply by adjusting your pace or the tension knob on the bike.  Spinning was created by world-class cyclist "Jonny G" as a convenient and quick way to train for races almost 15 years ago and is rapidly growing in popularity.

Many spin enthusiasts also claim spinning is the hardest and best workout they have ever found. I would have to agree. There is no other workout that leaves me feeling like I just accomplished something and went beyond what I thought my body was capable of. Once you start you will be hooked! spinning 

It's low impact so safer on your joints: If you are a little on the "heavy side", running might make you feel like your joints get the hardest workout, not your muscles. Cycling with your feet secured on the pedal is called a closed kinetic chain activity. This keeps you hips knees and ankles in alignment, reducing/preventing injury and allowing your muscles to be loaded in the right places. This makes spinning a great workout for people of all ages, even older adults with joint problems.

Cardiovascular Health: The intense workout gets your heart pumping faster, which is beneficial on many levels. Spinning makes your heart pump at 80 percent of its capacity as opposed to 50 to 65 percent normally.Spinning improves all your metabolic functions and it is a terrific stress relief. Once the class start you forget about everything and you just work out hard and sweat like a pig!

Every level of fitness can participate in the same class. The resistance knob can be adjusted to any level and no one will know about it! The fitter you get, the faster you pedal and the higher you dial up your resistance, it's all up to you and how you feel on the day of your class.

You can't help but work harder. Look around the room. Look at your instructor. These people are working hard. Load music, cheering words from you instructor, and knowing that everyone else is sharing your pain, makes you feel like trying that little bit harder. Can you go over the top OTT, yes you can!

Important Tips For A Safe Spinning Exercise

  • Wear tight pants to minimize friction when paddling. Just a word of warning, your buttom will be very sore after your first few classes, but it gets better after that when you get used to it.
  • If you are serious about spinning, you need a pair of spinning shoes to make your spinning experience more comfortable and effective. Spinning shoes come in a wide variety of styles and functionality.
  • Set the bike before starting spinning exercise.
  • Adjust the saddle to your hip high. Ideal seated position is, when your knees are not bent or locked straight while paddling your bike. If it is your first time your instructor will show you how to set your bike up.
  • Adjust the handle-bar till it's in most comfortable position, and won't cause you neck and back pain. For you who have back pain problem, adjust your handle-bar higher to avoid pressure on your back.

  • Prepare your drink bottle to avoid dehydration.
  • As spinning exercise is a high intensity aerobics, you might be exhausted after few minutes. Don't force yourself, just push the resistance button to slow-down the rotation pulse.
  • In approximately 2-3 weeks you will notice an increase in your cardio endurance, energy level, and increased strength in your lower body and notice changes in your body shape and/or weight. The amount of body weight or fat lost depends on the number of times that you exercise per week and the dietary choices you make.
  • Remember to have fun!
