Sure, animal print is hot this year. No doubt about it. And personally, I adore leopard and cheetah print EVERYTHING, (handbags, skirts, shoes, sofas, curtains, etc), so I’m happy for the animal print renewal. 

When it comes to barely there clothing and specifically dresses, I could go either way. Some ladies can pull them off, and some ladies certainly shouldn’t even try (including me! No one wants to see that!)

When it comes to sideboob, I can also go either way. When Micaela Schaefer gave the world a look at her ample sideboob in May, I wrote about the basics of sideboob fashion.

This past Sunday night at the 2012 VH1 Do Something Awards, Laura Govan combined all three of the above in her barely there, python print dress - complete with super low-cut v-neck and center sideboob.

For those of you who may not know, Laura stars on the hit reality TV show, “Basketball Wives: LA.” She recently gave birth to her fourth child, after which she quickly lost more than 100 pounds. 

In true reality TV star fashion, she is now branching out and working on a fitness DVD for working mothers as well as a low-carb and low-calorie cookbook of, “delicious and nutritious” foods.

Many people have called Laura Govan’s snake print dress a fashion don’t. Some of my fellow fashionistas and reporters have even suggested that the dress would be more appropriate for a Halloween costume party than the red carpet (or in this case blue carpet) of an awards show. 

Perhaps shockingly, I’m going to have to disagree this time. I’m generally pretty judgmental when it comes to celebrities and particularly celebrity fashion but I think Laura looked great. The brown and red python print looked great with her skin tone and lovely black hair. She pulled off the center sideboob well and looked sexy without seeming trashy. Well done, lady!

 

 

 

Micaela Schaefer made headlines this week with her very daring tape dress at the Men In Black 3 premiere. But did the dress cross the line between sexy sideboob and everything-but-the-nipple? Famous for her nearly nude outfits and a nipple slip, Micaela was a contestant on Germany’s Next Top Model, hosted by Heidi Klum.

Not only did the Men In Black 3 premiere dress leave people wondering “How much sideboob is too much?” it also blew away as she walked up the stairs to reveal a black thong. 

Nearly nude, strategically placed stripes of fabric (or VHS tape) aside, is sideboob sexy? First, perhaps we should define it…

What is Sideboob?

The cleavage between a woman’s breasts which is revealed by low cut clothing or the outer-side of the breast which is revealed when the sides of a shirt or dress are low cut.

Sideboob is also sometimes called side cleavage or sidewinders. It should not be confused with underboob, which is when the underside of the breast is exposed. Underboob is also referred to as neathage (underneath + cleavage), bottom cleavage, Australian cleavage, or reverse cleavage.

When did the Sideboob get so Popular?

Well, like most fashion trends, the sideboob has been popularized by celebrity women, mostly in the United States. Most recently, shots of Chloe Sevigny, Olivia Wilde, Eva Longoria, Rachel McAdams, and Sofia Vergara have featured sideboob. Micaela Schaefer is in some pretty good company and obviously it’s not just attention seeking German models who are flashing their side cleavage, but some of Hollywood’s most beautiful women.

So is sideboob sexy? 

It obviously depends on the person and the outfit. Although I have an ample D-cup, they are all-natural, which means my sideboob isn’t nearly as sexy as regular cleavage. But for women with small natural breasts or implants, sideboobs and the right outfit can be super sexy.
