Tulip is associated with Holland however they really originated from Persia. Tulip means helmet in Persian and refers to the shape of the flower.

  • Grow tulips in Sandy soil for better results.
  • Good Drainage is the primary factor for more production and growth.
  • Tulips should be to a depth of approximately three times to the length of the bulb.

  • Always allow the leaves to die off naturally after flowering and cutting of the head.

1.      You can make your garden beautiful with Tulip by using little bit of creativity. Plant Tulips in the clusters of 5-10 rather than in a straight line, it looks more attractive.

2.      Before planting and buying bulb decide regarding size and color. Tulips can be early, mid season, or late season bloomers. They can also be short (less than 8"), medium (8"-18"), or tall (over 18"). Choose the color according to your choice. They are available in red, yellow, pink, black, purple, white, orange, and multicolored. So the possibilities are endless.

3.      Quality of Bulb is very important for good tulips. The larger the bulb, the bigger the flower will be. Avoid bulbs that look shriveled, dried out, or have mold or cuts. Store your bulb in a cool dry location in case you are not planting them immediately. Do not store them in the house or in a heated garage.

4.      Next step is the preparation of soil. Remove rocks and weeds from the soil. Break the clumps of soil, and add special tulip fertilizer and bone meal to protect them from diseases like Tulip Fire". Also your bulbs will last longer and your flowers will be more beautiful. The soil should be about 60 degrees, 6"-8" down.

5.      Plant the bulbs 6"-8" deep with pointed end up, this should be 3-4 times as deep as the bulb is wide. There should be 4"-6" of soil covering the top of the bulb. Plant your bulbs at the same depth if you want them to bloom at the same time. Plant the bulbs 4"-6" apart in clusters of 5-10. Firm the soil and water well. In extremely cold climates, cover your bulbs with mulch.

6.      Plant narcissus bulbs in between to keep squirrels or other animals away from your Tulip.
