The wind is blowing and the leaves are falling. It is full fledge fall. That means its time to look amazing. No longer are we sweating to death and putting on the thinnest pieces of fabric to avoid heat stroke. We can release our fabric muses and express ourselves through our outfits. 5 big trends are rearing their heads this season and I’m going to help you break ‘em down.
Fall Outerwear
This season it’s not so much what kind of coat but the shape of it. For fall this year many designers envisioned us in oversized coats. Now some of you may be thinking “but I’ll look like I’m wearing my father’s army coat”…. Not true. Balenciaga, Chloe and Celine all made beautiful coats in scrumptious colors. The oversized coat gives you a little edge and makes you look cool without trying.
Fall Fabrics
For fall the designers got truly decadent and decided to go gilded. Brocade was a popular trend running in many of the fall ‘Ready to Wear’ shows. Who was my favorite? The geniuses behind Proenza Schouler. They not only had fabulous brocade pieces but they also brought an Asian style to it. In fact, many of the designers, including Balmain, Marni and Christopher Kane brought an Asian theme into their lines. Looks like chopsticks might be a fall accessory as well.
Leather was the second fabric that was showcased heavily by many designers. Looks like this year most designers are shying away from the pretty, girly side of fashion and trying to turn on a hard edge. No longer is leather only acceptable for greasers. Many designers had leather pants, skirts, and jackets in their collection.
Matching Suit Pieces
For all my working girls out there, I’m talking to you. You need to get yourself a suit in matching patterns. To really achieve the look the pattern should be bold and beautiful. Rag and Bone and J.Crew did great prints. The important thing to remember here is to give a little break to the pattern. Pair the suit with a solid colored shirt or a belt. Your oversized coat will help halt the pattern assault as well. This look really gives the lady wearing it a Hitchcock vibe. What could be more perfect for fall?
Fall Fashion Form
Designers are definitely trying to bring edge to their lines. What’s edgier than sex appeal? For fall we are going to be seeing a lot of accentuation of the hips. Designers brought back the peplum and some even added padding in the hips. The overall affect is to truly highlight the female form. So flaunt your curves ladies and let the designers do the work for you.
At last thought
Something to remember while shopping for fall trends is that many of them will carry over to winter. So don’t stress that you won’t be in fashion once Christmas time comes. If you invest in these trends and add your own flare, you’ll be looking chic through more season than one.
