I’ve always been a huge fan of polka dots. In fact, they're my #2 all-time fav, after only leopard print. And no, I’m not just saying that in a feeble attempt at pretending I’m a trendsetting fashionista who’s always ahead of what’s hot. Polka dots have a permanent place in my heart. Long lasting as my love for them may be, I have to admit that I am fairly excited that polka dots happen to be hot this year. 

I’m not excited because I will finally look fashionable in the polka dot gear I’ve already been wearing. No, no. I’ll go one wearing it long after the dots have fallen from grace. I’m excited about the current polka dot trend because it means that a variety of new products are available with the dots I already love.

From clothing, handbags and shoes to home and garden accessories, polka dots can be found just about everywhere this year.

Time to stock up! 

What Makes Polka Dots a Must-Have for Fall?

They're Surprisingly Versatile – Although the thought of mixing multiple prints may have you feeling a bit pensive, the polka dots of today can be paired with more than just jeans and complimentary solids. Partner them up with tiny florals or even stripes for daring combos that are sure to turn heads.

From Sweet to Sexy – In the past, polka dots may have been a print primarily reserved for sugary sweet little girl’s clothes or grandma’s sassy sweatshirts but times have changed. You can easily sweeten your look with a classic polka dress or skirt and minimal accessories but these dots don’t stop there. Slim fit polka dot pants, strappy heals, and a form-fitting top play well together for a sexy look that’s perfect for a night out partying.

Perkilicious – Polka dot’s playful patterns help perk you (and those around you) up almost instantly. There’s just something about them that generates excitement. Polka dotted patterns cause people’s eyes to move around more quickly than more subdued prints, causing the person looking at the playful dots to feel more energetic and positive. 

Can polka dots boost your mood? Perhaps not but they can certainly cause quite a ruckus when worn well. Incidentally, I just noticed that if you search for “polka dot” on Etsy right now, you’ll get nearly 200,000 results. I guess I know what I’ll be doing this afternoon… (did I mention that it's time to stock up?)
