Just as there birthstones for every month of the year, there are clothes colors for every day of the week. Did you know that?

Anyway, let’s talk about birthstones first. The idea of having birthstones for every month has been around for thousands of years
and many systems have arisen in different cultures.

Why have birthstones? Well, it is said that in ancient times these stones had magical powers, powers that would influence fate by bringing good luck and protecting the wearer from evil. There were twelve stones, one each to correspond to the astrological signs of the Zodiac and the twelve months of the year.

The twelve stones which are used in the present-day system are Garnet (January), Amethyst (February), Aquamarine/Bloodstone (March), Diamond (April), Emerald (May), Pearl/Moonstone (June), Ruby (July), Peridot (August), Sapphire (September), Opal (October), Topaz (November) and Turquoise/Zircon (December).

And what about clothes colors for each day of the week? I’m afraid to say that if you follow this system you’ll have to have quite an extensive jewelry collection.

So for maximum good fortune and success these are the stones/colors combinations you must wear –

    • Sunday - Garnet/Zircon with orange or red.
    • Monday - Pearl/Diamond with cream or yellow
    • Tuesday - Topaz with pink.
    • Wednesday - Emerald with green
    • Thursday - Cat’s Eye with orange
    • Friday - Pearl/Diamond with sky-blue or dark blue
    • Saturday - Spinel/Ruby with black or purple

Garnets are mostly dark red, the topaz mostly yellow, the spinel mostly rich red, the amethyst violet, the bloodstone green with red spots, the moonstone has shimmering colors on a transparent background, the peridot is a vivid green with a hint of gold, the opal displays a shining and sparkling play of colors, and the zircon comes in many shades and hues.

And what about the cat’s eye? This is a fascinating yellowish greenish stone featuring a band of light which runs lengthwise.
