You may hate Christmas music. You may hate Mariah Carey. But if hearing this song come on your shower radio doesn’t immediately make you burst out into a one-woman-winter-wonderland-solo, you might be dead. Because it’s the best Christmas song ever, and you know it.
There’s just something about Carey’s over the top vocals and apparent inability to comprehend cheesiness that makes it so good. Plus, let’s face it: the girl as got a set of pipes that with all its highs and lows is a sound all her own.
On the show “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday, the iconic singer was a guest who gave an interview, chatting about the life and times of Mimi. The best part though? She stopped by the Music Room to perform this holiday classic with Jimmy and plenty of help from The Roots, who accompanied her with all kinds of entertaining instruments.
The guys use a kazoo, a blue recorder, hand cymbals, a tambourine, shakers, a ukulele, a xylophone, maracas, and other classroom music-makers to accompany the incredible voice of Mariah, and they certainly get funky with their ugly holiday sweaters and pop-up children back up singers.
You can check out the performance
here, it’s sure to fill you with some holiday cheer.
I have to admit that the Roots don’t seem to enjoying the performance as much as the amazing rendition of “Call Me Maybe” that they did with Carly Rae Jepsen - in short, it’s worth going down the YouTube rabbit hole check out some of their covers over the last year!
