Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes agreed that daughter Suri should live primarily with her mother in New York with generous visitation by her father.

The subject of physical custody of the 6-year-old was a main component of the settlement announced Monday just days after Holmes filed for divorce, according to sources. "They both love their daughter," says one source, "and Tom thinks she should be with her mother." The superstar also "didn't want his family dragged through the mud," says the source. "Neither one of them wanted this to be hashed out in public."

"Katie insisted that Suri's nanny and bodyguards always accompany her when she visits Tom. Katie did this for several reasons. This will ensure a smooth and easy transition for Suri when she is with Tom.

Holmes, 33, and Suri recently moved into a three-bedroom apartment in New York City, where the pair have been spotted out. Holmes has decided to enroll her daughter into a private school in Manhattan in the fall.

Katie and Tom also filed a joint statement through their representatives, which read: "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents."

Actress Katie Holmes was shooting for her upcoming movie, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, in Victoria, Australia over the weekend. In the film - based on a remake of a 1973 ABC TV movie, Tom Cruise's wife plays a woman stalked by evil gnomes. Holmes was shooting a scene inside a car when the vehicle's battery exploded, sparking smoke and fumes, before the car then caught fire. The exploding battery was not a part of the film. Katie somehow managed to escape the injury. It is a horror movie and it brought horror to Katie's life, lol.

"Katie was very shaken by the ordeal," a source told Mail Online. "She took the rest of the day off while special effects staff looked over the faults. Katie has filmed scenes since but it has made her think about her safety on set. She will be shooting the same scene at a later date." Thank God, No one was injured in the explosion.
