Ms. Clarkson has come a long way since her days as everyone’s favorite underdog on American Idol. The thirty-year-old singer/song writer is having the kind of year her fans have been hoping for. Seriously - pick three of her songs at random and I guarantee you that the lyrics will have something to do with heartache and struggle, which makes the news of her engagement to boyfriend Brandon Blackstock all the more awesome to hear.
Kelly announced her engagement to Blackstock on twitter mid December of last year. Her fiancée Brandon is the son of Clarkson’s manager Narvel Blackstock. Narvel is married to the one and only country singer I can name, let alone say that I like, Reba McEntire.
Based on what I’ve seen on twitter, Kelly is wasting no time getting in good with her soon-to-be mother-in-law. Since December I would say almost half of her tweets have included Reba. Not that I blame her, Reba seems to one of the few people in her industry that has a soul and might actually be fun to talk to.
Reba seems to be equally enthusiastic about the engagement. She told reporters that she can’t wait to have Clarkson become part of the family, and has mentioned having a good connection with Kelly in addition to having tremendous respect for her as a singer.
Seriously, what could be better for old Kelly? Oh wait – winning a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album after getting engaged to Reba McEntire’s stepson. As someone who found catharsis by hitting my steering wheel as while belting out Clarkson’s songs on my way home from work everyday for a few years, I am thrilled that such a talented artist has finally found some inspiration to write happier music to.
