Barack Obama's supporters screamed, punched the air and leapt up and down as news came through that the man they had campaigned so hard for, the Democratic senator from Illinois, was now president of the United States! It is just so amazing to see so many people coming together for our country. Chicago has been home to celebrations.
Obama's mother-in-law, Marian Robinson tells PEOPLE. "We all had our little laugh, our little enjoyment when he said it. It was like, OK, that means it's true." By the time CNN made it official, Obama's uncle Robinson adds, "Everybody was quiet. I can't tell you how subdued it was. We weren't like the people in the stands - you know, yelling and screaming."
Its true people had been anticipating this moment for weeks and months. However getting the honor of the position at the time of war and global financial crisis, Obama, 47, as the 44th president, won't have the luxury of savoring his achievement for long. "For even as we celebrate tonight," he said at his victory rally in Chicago, "we know that the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime."

Obama and his family along with their daughters enjoyed the success with friends, staffers and supporters. Brad Pitt and Oprah Winfrey were also there to show their support. Less than an hour after sealing his hold on the White House, Obama and his wife, Michelle, stepped onto the stage holding the hands of their two daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, at a massive victory rally in Chicago's Grant Park. |

"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer," the new president said.
The happiness on November 4, 2008 for Barack Obama winning the Presidential election is electric. It is a happiness that is significant. It's happiness about that things will change. Lives and living standard will be hopefully be improved. I guess we have to just wait and see, time will tell.
