Miss Universe 2008 in Global Leadership Awards Gala

Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza attended 2008 Global Leadership Awards gala at The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel October 1, 2008 in New York City. She was the first to present an award to Dr. Larry Brilliant, executive director of Google.org, who was honored with his organization for their work in addressing issues of climate change and forging global partnerships to help the developing world, the eighth MDG.

Dayana Mendoza's life changed forever when she was crowned Miss Universe 2008 in Nha Trang, Vietnam. The 22 year-old former Miss Venezuela was born in Caracas and speaks three languages - Spanish, English and Italian. Although Dayana had a successful modeling career, her lifelong ambition is to become either an interior designer or work in the field of advertising.

Miss Universe heart throb is looking forward to start championing the official causes of her crown, which include increasing HIV/AIDS awareness by focusing on women's health and reproductive issues and forging relationships with organizations committed to research and education, including the Latino Commission on AIDS, Global Health Council and God's Love We Deliver.
