Bangkok Dangerous Movie Review

Bangkok Dangerous is directed by the brothers, Oxide and Danny Pang who made the popular Hong Kong action film of the same name - Bangkok Dangerous? in?1999. So you could say that this film is a sort of remake. However the best part of the film is the fact that the Academy Award-winning American actor Nicolas Cage as Joe a world-weary hit man on an assignment in the Thai capital is the central character.

Joe (Nicolas Cage), a remorseless hit man, is in Bangkok to execute four enemies of a ruthless crime boss named Surat. He hires Kong (Shahkrit Yamnarm), a street punk and pickpocket, to run errands for him with the intention of covering his tracks by killing him at the end of the assignment. Strangely, Joe, the ultimate lone wolf, instead finds himself mentoring the young man while simultaneously being drawn into a tentative romance with a local shop girl. As he falls further under the sway of Bangkok's intoxicating beauty, Joe begins to question his isolated existence and let down his guard, just as Surat decides it's time to clean house.

Movie is with so many problems, the main flaw in Bangkok Dangerous is that Cage's Joe is never presented as a sympathetic or compelling figure. He's completely depressed and disillusioned from the moment we meet him- and only gets worse as his situation starts to untangle. This makes the audience bored and wanting it to finish.

However l wonder why the Pang brothers (Danny and Oxide) wanted to remake their 1999 cult favorite Bangkok Dangerous. This has only one simple answer- the fact that Nicolas Cage plays the lead and maybe they thought this would make it a great movie. This movie has got only one star and earned about $7,783,266 as per Box Office review. Better luck next time!
