Can you believe Michelle is 49! She is looking gorgeous.

Birthday girl Michelle Obama joined Twitter on Thursday, and in her second-ever official Tweet (she had a campaign Twitter account last year) debuted a youthful new hairstyle: a straight, shoulder-skimming cut with bangs. And the people have spoken! The majority of those who replied to @FLOTUS on Twitter voted that the new look was quite an improvement with more than 300 retweets and favorites. "Happy Birthday, and great hair," tweeted ‏@lea_artz.

For the past four years she maintained a slightly tousled, side-parted look sans fringe, and just days before her husband's Inauguration Michelle went public with her gorgeous ‘do.

The photo of Obama's haircut was taken Thursday as she met with the Inaugural citizen co-chair, David Hall, to talk about the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, which also happens to fall on Monday. (And fashion alert: She's wearing Zac Posen in the shot.)

Wonder what Michelle will wear to the Inauguration to go with those new bangs?
