If you wish to enjoy the flavor of both comedy and action "Tropic Thunder" is the perfect entertainment source for you. The film centers around three protagonists: Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Tom Cruuise and Robert Downey Jr. I think the movie never fails to entertain.
Tropic Thunder is a good time must see with a friend you can also laugh and enjoy the movie with. Despite the rough patches, the movie allows Stiller to blow up stuff in a handsome fashion all the while lampooning the industry and his fellow actors, whose bloated ego and sycophantic "yes men" blind them to the inanities of their lifestyle choices and personalities. Oh and there's Booty Sweat. How can one not laugh?

You even get to see Robert Downey Jr as a black man, he plays an Oscar-winning Aussie who undergoes a skin pigmentation procedure in order to darken his skin enough so that he can play an African-American soldier. Oh, yes then there is Tom Cruise. I never though him as a funny man, but he has proved me wrong, he was great. Not many modern films would attempt something that crazy. But it's not just that unusual storyline that puts Tropic Thunder in a league of its own. |

It took a lot of guts for Ben Stiller and co-writer Justin Theroux to call out their fellow actors, yet what's even more impressive is that moviegoers don't have to get every single in-joke to find Tropic Thunder funny. The music in the film is really amazing, too.

The movie's publicity has undoubtedly benefited from recent protests by interest groups alleging the movie's insensitivity and prejudice towards the mentally challenged. The movie derives laughs not from mental retardation or handicaps itself, but the idea of a desperate, fading action star doing anything - yes, even playing a mentally challenged character - to win a coveted Oscar? |
