Joe and Tina Simpson File for Divorce While Gay Rumors Circulate

Jessica Simpson's parents Tina and Joe Simpson have filed for divorce, a rep for the family tells PEOPLE.

Their statement to PEOPLE Wednesday came the same day that buzz built around a story reporting that Joe Simpson is gay and has a young lover, a rep for the couple denies such allegations. "It is an amicable split and there is no third party involved," says the rep. "Any other related allegations are completely false. The family appreciates your respect for their privacy at this time."

Joe and Tina Simpson have been separated for a while now. It's really very sad to see a marriage that has last for 35 years come to an end. The split is no doubt difficult on everyone in the family, including Jess and sister Ashlee Simpson.
In Joe's response to Tina's divorce petition, he requests Tina not get anything in the split.

None of the Simpsons have spoken out further about the split - or the rumors.
