As Election Day looms closer the tension between the two major parties is at an all time high.  While healthy competition is always a good thing has the competition between blue and red become unhealthy?

Director James Stafford seems to think so. With the help of Kid Rock and Sean Penn he has released a PSA. The name of the short film is “Americans.” The point of the film is to advise against promoting the stereotypes of each political party and to unite Americans under one ideal, freedom.

The PSA is both serious and comical. Kid Rock reps for the Republicans while Sean Penn is there for the Democrats. The PSA has a good message. It does it’s best to try to bring together the two different parties. There was one thing that bothered me in the film.

Half way through the movie the two lay down their swords and become friends. We watch a montage were Kid Rock participates in various “democratic” activities: promoting environmental awareness, buying a Prius, and attending a gay marriage ceremony.  Then, when it’s Sean Penn’s turn to get a little red all he does is drink a beer and don a NASCAR shirt. Does Stafford think that’s all the Republican Party has to offer? Isn’t he contradicting his entire PSA message?

My favorite part of the film is when a foreigner shames both of them for there trivial bickering and reminds them that they live in one of the most opportunistic countries in the world.

No matter whom you’re voting for this November, I think you should take the time to watch this film. Let us know what you think in the comments.
