The US Women's Soccer Team defeated Canada in the Olympic semi-final game on Monday August 6, 2012. Tied at 3-3, the match went into extra time. Alex Morgan scored a goal to make it 4-3 in this incredible win. This guarantees the US Women’s Soccer team a spot in the gold medal match.
It was down to the last 60 seconds of injury time, at the end of extra time and Alex Morgan scored the goal people will be talking about for weeks, if not longer.
The US team will play Japan this Thursday for the gold. Last year’s World Cup final was also played between the two countries, with Japan winning on penalty shots.
Every year since Women’s Soccer was added to the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996, the US Women’s team have played the gold medal match.
For a country that many people around the world consider to be untalented when it comes to soccer, (aka football), the US Women’s team have certainly fought hard to change people’s minds.
The team that does not win on Thursday will receive the Silver medal. Canada and France will play one another for the bronze medal.
